24 alternatives to Mathesar – open-source collaborative UI for Postgres databases

Hi HN! We just released the public alpha version of Mathesar (https://mathesar.org/, code: https://github.com/centerofci/mathesar). Mathesar is an open source tool that provides a spreadsheet-like interface to a PostgreSQL database. I was originally inspired by wanting to build something like Dabble DB. I was in awe of their user experience for working with relational data. There’s plenty of “relational spreadsheet” software out there, but I haven’t been able to find anything with a comparable UX since Twitter shut Dabble DB down. We're a non-profit…

Hi HN! We just shipped the public beta of the hosted version of Mathesar, our open source “intuitive spreadsheet UI, full PostgreSQL power” project. Until now, using Mathesar meant installing and running it yourself. Now you can use Mathesar for free without having to maintain your own infrastructure at https://mathesar.cloud. Mathesar Cloud is run by the Mathesar maintainers through the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that already maintains the open source project. We’re committed to ALWAYS keeping Mathesar 100% open source (no open core), nonprofit, and treat self-hosting as a first-class…

We've been hard at work for a few weeks and thought it's time for another update. In case you missed our first post, PostgresML is an end-to-end machine learning solution, running alongside your favorite database. This time we have more of a suite offering: project management, visibility into the datasets and the deployment pipeline decision making. Let us know what you think! SnapQL is an open-source desktop app (built with Electron) that lets you query your Postgres database using natural language. It’s schema-aware, so you don’t need to copy-paste your schema or write complex SQL by hand. Everything runs locally — your OpenAI API key, your data, and your queries — so it's secure and private. Just connect your DB, describe what you want, and SnapQL writes and runs the SQL for you.

I launched NumPad v1 on here a few years ago, and back then it wasn't much more than a thin CodeMirror wrapper around the calculator engine I'd written. Now I've rewritten it as a PWA that supports multiple documents, persists them to IndexedDB, and has a syncing service for paying customers. Syncing is handled by Automerge[1] under the hood, which should make it relatively easy to get document sharing working too. [1] https://automerge.org/

Hi, I am David Kircos. The Founder of Quadratic (https://QuadraticHQ.com), an open-source spreadsheet application that supports Python, SQL (coming soon), AI Prompts, and classic Formulas. Unlike other spreadsheets, Quadratic has an infinite canvas (like Figma). As a result, you can pinch and zoom to navigate large data sets, and everything renders smoothly at 60fps. Our vision is to build a place where your team can collaborate on data analysis. You can write Python, AI Prompts, and Formulas in one spreadsheet feeding each other data and updating automatically. Quadratic is built…

One year ago I open-sourced my very first 'real' project and shared it here. I was a college student in my senior year and desperately looking for a job. At the time of sharing it i couldn't even afford a domain and naively let someone buy the one i had my eyes on lol. It's been a hell of a year with this blowing up, me moving to another country, and switching 2 jobs. In a year we somehow managed to hit 26k stars, grow a 1000+ person discord community, and support 37 languages. I couldn't be more grateful for the community that helped this grow, but now i don't know what direction to take…

Hi all, just posting an update to my previous Show HN, where I announced a side-project I worked on which was a (web version) of a multi-user, notepad style calculator: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31817997 After a couple of user requests (and having a good think about it) I decided to migrate the web UI to create a Mac and Windows desktop app. After using it a little bit, I feel this is a much better experience than the webapp, and reduces a lot of the friction if I wanted to run a few small calculations. Last year we launched ChartDB OSS (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44972238) - an open-source tool that generates ER diagrams from your database (via query/sql/dbml) without needing direct DB access. Now we’re launching the ChartDB Agent. It helps you design databases from scratch or make schema changes with natural language. You can: - Generate schemas by simply describing them in plain English - Brainstorm new tables, columns, and relationships with AI - Iterate visually in a diagram (ERD) - Deterministically export SQL script Try it out here -…

It's a tool that fits just right for me and many others, and I love and use almost every day. Write SQL, share results, do some analysis, get insight. No surprises. A live demo instance is here (no login or anything required): https://demo.sqlexplorer.io/ And here's a fairly unprofessional, but very enthusiastic, video tour: https://sql-explorer.s3.amazonaws.com/Sql+Explorer+5.mp4 The UI is constrained enough that there's very little to learn,…

Creating data visualizations with AI nowadays often means chat, chat and more chats...and writing long prompts can be annoying while they are also not the most effective way to describe your visualization designs. Data Formulator blends UI interaction with natural language so that you can create visualizations with AI much more effectively!
