Hello HN! I'm the creator and solo developer of Extension.js, a development tool for browser extensions with built-in support for TypeScript, WebAssembly, React, and modern JavaScript. Developers use it to spend less time configuring the compilation config or learning new frameworks and more time actually writing code. Most projects similar to Extension.js rely on some sort of abstraction or configuration to get started, making the initial development process slow given the extra learning curve and setup guidelines. By using Extension.js, adding the package to your npm scripts is all it…

Hi HN, I'm Barry and I've built Prism.Tools (https://blgardner.github.io/prism.tools/) – a collection of client-side developer utilities that respect your privacy. Many of these tools were used way back in the days when I ran a BBS and started my communities first ISP, serving three local communities with Dial-Up Internet, Web Hosting etc. The tools have been refined to reflect the changes in tech since then and designed for the Novice and Pro alike. As I locate more tools others may find useful I will refine and add them to the collection. Use them, Share them, or not.…

Hi HN, I'm excited to share my open source project, a browser orchestrator. It's purpose is to make it easy to manage many browser profiles on one system. Currently it only works on MacOS, but since I've built it using Tauri (which is a Rust backend and TypeScript frontend), I expect to add Linux and Windows support in the future. I've built it primarily for myself as I use a lot of browsers and having an easy way to manage all of my profiles would make (have made, actually) my dock less cluttered haha. Also, part of why I built it is because as someone who doesn't really care about…

Hey HN, we're excited to have people try out our framework! When we built out a Chrome extension earlier this year, we noticed that the config was too imperative. You had to constantly tell Chrome via the manifest.json file where your files were, what your permissions should be, etc. So we thought it might be interesting to build a more declarative framework. When we built a proof of concept, we enjoyed working with it and decided to invest more time into making it usable and adding more features. We're still pretty early in building it out, and there's a bunch more we want to add, but this…

Hey HN, I built an automated system that tracks malicious Chrome/Edge extensions daily. The database updates automatically by monitoring chrome-stats for removed extensions and scanning security blogs. Currently tracking 1000+ known malicious extensions with extension IDs, names, and dates. I'm working on detection tools (GUI + CLI) to scan locally installed extensions against this database, but wanted to share the raw data first since maintained threat intelligence lists like this are hard to find. The automation runs 24/7 and pushes updates to GitHub. Free to use for research,…
