24 alternatives to Movie Iris - Visualizing Films Through Color Extraction

I saw someone post these on reddit 4 years ago, and I really wanted to make them. I was surprised they didn't open source their code, so I rebuilt it. Lots of things I would do differently now haha, but anyway, figured someone here might find it interesting.

Movie Iris extracts and visualizes the dominant colors from films, creating a color palette representation of each movie. The tool is designed for filmmakers, visual analysts, and cinema enthusiasts interested in… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Movie Iris - Visualizing Films Through Color Extraction launched in 2024; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

Hi HN, I’m Emil, the maker behind Palette. I’ve been tinkering with AI and colorization for about five years. This is my latest colorization model. It’s a text-based AI colorizer, so you can edit the colorizations with natural language. To make it easier to use, I also automatically create captions and generate filters. Let me know what you think. You can see some of my results on my reddit page: https://www.reddit.com/user/emilwallner/?sort=top

This is a personal project I've been working on for a long time now. I stumbled upon the color quantization problem while doing something related for work. I then found an interesting paper for which I could find no implementations online, and the thing went from "let's implement this paper" to getting pretty obsessed with the whole thing. It's at an early, eaaaarly stage. There's a lot of work to be done, and it's a memory hog, but generally speaking works quite well, and the output is for the most part very high quality, so I'm happy to share it as beta.

I crawled lots of websites and extracted their color palettes (primary, secondary, etc) to build a searchable collection of website colors! It was a fun side-project and I learned a lot about color theory. Let me know what you think and what features you would like to see :) If you have any questions about the tech behind it, feel free to ask in the comments. Feedback is also greatly appreciated.

Hi Hacker News, I'm excited to share a project I've been passionately working on in my spare time: AI Movie Finder (https://www.aimoviefinder.com). The idea was born out of a simple, yet frequent, frustration: having a movie on the tip of my tongue but being unable to recall the title. All I could remember were fragments – a specific scene, a snippet of dialogue, the general plot, or even just the mood it evoked. Traditional search engines often fell short with these kinds of abstract queries. So, I decided to build a solution. AI Movie Finder uses a natural language processing…

Hello HN! Over the last 15 years, I’ve worked as an AE/Editor, DIT, Colorist, Online Editor & Post Supervisor and based on my experience I've built a tool that I hope will be useful for some of you! It's a cinema calculator (aspect ratios, target speeds, target bitrates & more...) called CineMath and it's available for free download in the Apple App Store. I would be immensely grateful for any feedback and hope that it helps someone in their workflow!
