Diceright is a virtual tabletop for playing dungeons and dragons with friends on the web. You can watch a quick overview of how it works here: https://tinyurl.com/diceright. And there’s a list of the main features right on the homepage. It’s a Ruby on Rails site that makes heavy use of action cable for keeping the maps and tokens in sync for all players. On the front end, I’m using HTML canvas for the maps and a js library called fabric.js for interacting with the canvas. Otherwise, just jQuery on the front end. I optimized it all to work on mobile too. I built this as a side…

I made this game to teach my daughter how buffer overflows work. I want her to look at programs as things she can change, and make them do whatever she wants. Building your exploit in memory and jumping to it feels so cool. I hope this game teaches kids and programmers (who seem to have forgotten what computers actually are) that its quite fun to mess with programs. We used to have that excitement few years ago, just break into softice and change a branch into a nop and ignore the serial number check, or go to a different game level because this one is too annoying. While working on the game…

Hi everyone, I’m an indie developer learning Next.js and a big fan of the NYT game Pips. Inspired by it, I built https://pipsgamer.com — a responsive web version of Pips with smooth gameplay on both desktop and mobile. What makes this project different from NYT’s version is that you can play it infinitely under three difficulty levels: Easy / Medium / Hard. This is the first time I’ve built a game. Along the way I ran into many difficulties: implementing the game logic, configuring the UI, matching layouts for small and large screens, etc. I spent many lonely nights and…

Forkle (forkle.co.uk) is a daily word game where two thematically linked crosswords occupy the same grid simultaneously. Every tile contains two letters - one belonging to each puzzle - displayed as a diagonal colour split. Where the two puzzles intersect, some tiles share the same letter, giving you a foothold into both crosswords at once. The mechanic has two layers: the shared grid, and the connected themes. Each day's two crosswords are thematically paired around a central idea. For example, a previous puzzle was "Same House, Different Kingdoms" - same home, same humans, entirely…
