I realized I was compiling a list of coffee shops with highly curated reviews in my personal notes: chair comfort, Wi-Fi networks and passwords, internet speed, noise level, bathroom cleanliness, etc... So a while ago I was thinking it would be neat to build a site that had the most absolute utility. The idea I came up with was a site to store those little protips that are super useful, if you know them ahead of time. This is a little project I've been working on for a while in order to better learn Python. Although IRC may not exactly be the most exciting medium, I still find it to be fun and useful, this interest lead me to writing a bot. I built HackerBuddy.com with the idea of helping the Hacker News community get one-on-one help with fellow hackers that know their stuff. It matches up people that are good at a particular skill (Ruby on Rails, Python, beta-testing, general startup advice etc) with people that need that specialist help. My weekend hack project was to put together a small web app for sharing links in the spirit of memepool.com. It uses a bookmarklet to let people clip interesting articles to share while reading and uses a subset of markdown to add links and blockquotes to posts. this project started at a local hackathon and I spent another 4 or 5 weekends polishing it up. My girlfriend, who I brought along to the event, said she was getting 'tired of her friends asking her what she will be wearing tonight or the brand of the foundation she is using right now'. A digital wardrobe, for the lack of better words. It was a fun project and some of the early adopters are her friends.
