24 alternatives to My weekend project to connect coders with non-profits
After a weekend of coding, last night I launched a very early-version MVP of Coders Who Care. - The goal of the site is to connect nonprofits with developers willing to donate time to a good cause. Right now, it's simply a directory, but in the future I'll be adding more tools for devs and organizations, including ways for charities to post projects and tools to notify developers when a project is posted that matches their interests, etc. I'll also introduce some social components, like recommendations/endorsements, and I have plans for eventually adding a software distribution system that…

http://giving.github.com A few weeks back, from a conversation around helping make the world a truly better place, we started a site where charities, organizations and those trying to make the world better could ask us programmers for help. The site is hard to establish as those doing meaningful work and in need of our help are sadly unaware of the programming community and spirit. But it has started to attract some requests - issues in github-mapping - that will hopefully propel it forward and serve to raise awareness with the good causes! So go get over there and help code something…

A few days ago, someone I follow asked the community for help maintaining his side-project, 512kb.club. This got me thinking. There are loads of maintainers out there feeling burnt out, but they can't abandon their project since people are depending on the project to be maintained. In an effort to combat this, I built a website that lists projects looking for new maintainers. It's still quite empty and has some rough edges. Any feedback is very welcome!
