Yo. OtterTune is a database optimization service. It uses machine learning to automatically tune your MySQL and Postgres configuration (i.e., RDS parameter groups) to improve performance and reduce costs. It does this by only looking at your database's runtime metrics (e.g., INNODB_METRICS, pg_stat_database, CloudWatch). We don't need to examine sensitive queries or user tables. We spun this project out of my research group at Carnegie Mellon University in 2020. This week we've announced that OtterTune is now available to the public. We are offering everyone a starter account to try it out…

I built Syne because I was tired of AI assistants that forget everything after each conversation. Syne is a self-hosted AI agent framework where memory is a first-class citizen — stored as semantic vectors in PostgreSQL, searchable across millions of entries, and persistent forever. Key features: - Unlimited persistent memory with semantic search (pgvector) - Anti-hallucination: only stores user-confirmed facts, auto-deduplicates - Self-evolving: creates new abilities at runtime without restart - Multi-model: switch between Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude mid-conversation - True $0/month setup:…

Hey HN! I built a thing and I'm really excited to share it. EDIT: I meant to link to the github, not the website: https://github.com/max-hq/max Like many of us here, I've been commonly reaching for a pattern of "pull data into db; give it to claude" for a while, whilst doing data spelunking or building tooling - for the same reasons mentioned by thellimist over here [1] and a few other recent "CLI vs MCP" posts. To that end, about a month ago I started building a project called `max` - its goal is to cut the middleman and schematise any data source for you. Essentially,…

Hey HN, I've been on the lookout for a SQL client that ticks all my boxes and looks good, so I decided to build one myself. ThinkDB is a self-hosted, web-based SQL client with all the usual features like query execution and table browsing. But it also includes some cool extras – a smart conversation feature for generating SQL queries and chatting with a virtual DBA. You can hook it up to any OpenAI-compatible AI and connect to MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite. I'll be around all day to answer questions and take any feedback you have.
