Hey HN! I just released go-nbd, a lightweight Go library for effortlessly creating NBD servers and clients. Its a neat tool for creating custom Linux block devices with arbitrary backends, such as a file, byte slice or what I'm planning to use it for, a tape drive. While there are a few partially abandoned projects like this out there already, this library tries to be as maintainable as possible by only implementing the most recent handshake revision and baseline functionality for both the client and the server, while still having enough support to be useful. I'd love to get your feedback :)

Hi HN, I built Ayder — a single-binary, HTTP-native durable event log written in C. The wedge is simple: curl is the client (no JVM, no ZooKeeper, no thick client libs). There’s a 2-minute demo that starts with an unclean SIGKILL, then restarts and verifies offsets + data are still there. Numbers (3-node Raft, real network, sync-majority writes, 64B payload): ~50K msg/s sustained (wrk2 @ 50K req/s), client P99 ~3.46ms. Crash recovery after SIGKILL is ~40–50s with ~8M offsets. I wanted to build a persistent message queue based on SQLite, because that's what I'm using for my main state anyway. This gives me ACID across state and messaging, which is nice! I've been inspired by the terminology of AWS SQS for this, but it's obviously much simpler. Maybe you can use it too. :)

We built Gonzo to make log analysis faster and friendlier in the terminal. Think of it like k9s for logs — a TUI that can ingest JSON, text, or OpenTelemetry (OTLP) logs, highlight and boil up patterns, and even run AI models locally or via API to summarize logs. I found hping3 and nmap's nping to be far too slow in terms of sending individual, bare-minimum (40-byte) TCP SYN packets; other than inefficient socket I/O, they were also attempting to do far too much unnecessary processing in what should have otherwise been a tight execution loop.
