For the past few months, I've been working on a website that answers two different questions: - Where in my city have the best travel times to all the things and people I care about? - Given a listing, how far is it from all the things and people I care about? Personally this was fueled by my own frustrations when I was apartment hunting in NYC. We're a small team of 3 engineers, and wanted to make a better way to look for for properties online. Traditional portals (esp. outside of US) are just a bit rubbish for doing anything other than basic searching. So we've: - Created a crawler that reads through estate agents websites to find homes for sale - Parses that through a series of LLMs and other models to understand each home in depth (e.g. floor type, location, total sqft) - Parses every photo through an embeddings vector space so that people can search for whatever they want. I just redesigned an old (1 year) project and would appreciate any feedback. The site has no real purpose other than allowing you to explore the large amount of imagery gathered by Google. You can make it less random by choosing a country, or indeed any geographical area (cities etc.) http://www.mapcrunch.com Thanks

I wrote a tool in Python that finds the school district associated with any given street address in the United States. Here’s how it works: An address corresponds to a single point on the map. The U.S Census Bureau has a geocoder that converts an address to latitude and longitude coordinates. School district boundaries can be represented as polygons on the map. The National Center for Education Statistics (NECS) has geographic data on school district boundaries. Once we determine which polygon the point resides in, we know the school district.

Backstory: Few years back, I used a shared spreadsheet (GSheets) to organize my property hunt, and found it quite frustrating to keep on top of things just on the productivity side alone. Felt that there should be a better way to do this, and that's when I started creating a webapp, with features that can make this journey feel less stressful. This is a solo dev project.
