Neco is a coroutine library for C that enables concurrent programming through lightweight, stackful coroutines. It allows developers to write asynchronous code in a more readable, sequential style rather than using… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Hi all, I have built Cimba, a multithreaded discrete event simulation library in C. Cimba uses POSIX pthread multithreading for parallel execution of multiple simulation trials, while coroutines provide concurrency inside each simulated trial universe. The simulated processes are based on asymmetric stackful coroutines with the context switching hand-coded in assembly. The stackful coroutines make it natural to express agentic behavior by conceptually placing oneself "inside" that process and describing what it does. A process can run in an infinite loop or just act as a one-shot customer…

Hello Hacker News. I’m Martin, a graduate student from Prague, and I’ve been working on Coros, a C++ library for task-based parallelism. After spending some time with OpenMP and oneTBB, I wanted to try building a library using modern features from the C++ standard library. I’ve used coroutines for task encapsulation and C++23 expected for exception handling, while trying to maintain good performance. Additionally, I’ve implemented monadic-like behavior to allow easy chaining of tasks, similar to the monadic operations in std::expected. You can check out the project here:…

Tasks are a primitive for asynchronous programming and an alternative to working with threads directly. Instead of creating a thread, performing work, then waiting on it using synchronization primitives, you only define a unit of work and let a scheduler decide when and where to execute it. The threads that the scheduler uses are created once and reused for many tasks throughout the program's lifetime. In most cases, creating and executing a task requires not even a single syscall and is a significantly faster operation than creating a thread, resulting in lower latency. Furthermore, tasks…

Hey HN, this is Will and David from Fortress (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41426998). We use a lot of async Rust internally, and created this library out of a need for an async-aware concurrent hashmap since there weren’t many available in the Rust ecosystem. Whirlwind is a sharded HashMap with a fully asynchronous API. Just as dashmap is a replacement for std::sync::RwLock, whirlwind aims to be a replacement for tokio::sync::RwLock. It has a similar design and performance characteristics to dashmap, but seems to perform better in read-heavy workloads with tokio's…

Hi HN ! Alex here. I'm excited to show you Asyncpal (https://github.com/pyrustic/asyncpal), a Python library for parallelism [1] and preemptive concurrency [2] tailored for sporadic workloads [3]. I've been working on a private project where it would be convenient to have asynchronous versions of some operations without using `async/await` [4]. Besides `async/await`, which represents cooperative concurrency via the `asyncio` package, Python also provides preemptive concurrency through its `threading` package. Additionally, the `concurrent.futures` package builds…

This weekend I created stacklib.h - a single-header library that brings Forth-style stack operations to C. It implements a basic interpreter with: - Stack operations (push/pop/dup/swap/over/drop) - Arithmetic (+, -, *, /) - Output (., emit, cr) - Stack inspection (.s, depth) Example usage: Stack s; stack_init(&s); dict_init(); exec(&s, "10 20 + ."); // Prints "30" exec(&s, "1 2 3 4 .s"); // Shows stack contents The library is self-contained, requires no dependencies, and handles basic error checking. It was inspired by wanting to understand…
