Colin here, creator of Nub. I’ve had the general shape of this in mind for years. Nub runs your code with stock `node`, augmented with a `--require` preload hook[0] that adds a transpiler (oxc-powered, packaged as a Node-API add-on), registers a module resolution hook[1], and injects polyfills as needed for APIs like `Worker`, `Temporal`, etc. All purely additive, your code ultimately runs using Node’s actual engine & stdlib implementations. I like the idea of using dotenv files, but I dislike having to use different language-specific libraries to read them. To solve this, I created a small utility that lets you prefix any command with "dotenv" to load the ".env" file. This is how I imagine dotenv would work if it had started as a UNIX utility rather than a Node.js library.

Hey HN, I'm Sindre, CTO of Scrimba (YC S20). We originally launched Scrimba to make video learning more interactive for aspiring frontend developers. So instead of passively watching videos, you can jump in an experiment with the code directly inside the video player. Since launch, almost two million people have used Scrimba to grow their skills. However, one limitation is that we've only supported frontend code, as our interactive videos run in the browser, whereas most of our learners want to go fullstack—building APIs, handling auth, working with databases, and so forth. To fix this, we…

Hi HN, I've built an app for macOS that allows performing common SSH operations on Linux servers using a native GUI. The problem: Managing multiple Linux servers usually means juggling terminal windows and copy-pasting snippets/scripts. After dealing with tens of production/staging VPSes at previous jobs, I realized there had to be a better way for common operations I did on a daily basis than my collection of bash snippets. Features: - Quickly switch between different servers. Tag servers with arbitrary key values for easy search. - Real-time dashboard with CPU/memory graphs,…
