Hey HN, I've been working on this side project for the past month. It generates a step-by-step tutorial guide for YouTube videos that you can follow along without watching long videos. Best suited for tutorial videos but can work for other videos aswell. No BS. Just straight to the point. The guides are generated from pure transcript so you don't have to worry about it being AI. It's my first project as a total beginner. Something I had to do inorder to get out of tutorial hell. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or if you face any problems or bugs. I would try to fix them to the…

Hey HN community, excited to share a project that I've worked on. On EduTube you can discover 1000+ hand-selected educational YouTube videos. YouTube has a lot of really great educational content but it's hard to find the really good ones. Personally, I find that the recommendations page often falls short, and I've lost count of how many times I've struggled to select a video to watch while eating, only to end up with cold food. There are a couple of categories that are free and if someone wants to have access to everything there is a 20$ one time payment. I always appreciate feedback if…

Hi HN! I made this because I always forget what I'm trying to learn from YouTube. Test yourself: Can you remember the main concepts from the last (educational) video you watched? So, why not highlight and take notes on YouTube videos, just like in books? That's TubePen. Sign in, replace "youtube" with "tubepen" in your YouTube URL, and you're ready to retain more from your videos. I’d love your feedback! What do you think of my landing page? Use the 10-day free trial and see if it’s useful for you. Thanks!

I watch a lot of Stanford/Berkeley lectures and YouTube content on AI agents, MCP, and security. Got tired of scrubbing through hour-long videos to find one explanation. Built v1 of mcptube a few months ago. It performs transcript search and implements Q&A as an MCP server. It got traction (34 stars, my first open-source PR, some notable stargazers like CEO of Trail of Bits). But v1 re-searched raw chunks from scratch every query. So I rebuilt it. v2 (mcptube-vision) follows Karpathy's LLM Wiki pattern. At ingest time, it extracts transcripts, detects scene changes with ffmpeg,…

YouTube is the greatest learning resource in the world. Yet it doesn't provide any tools to help you learn from videos. I built a simple app that turns YouTube videos into structured learning material using AI. It generates a summary, quiz and flashcards from video content, meaning you can learn from anything (well, at least any YouTube video). Try it out. Would be happy to keep building features based on feedback!

YouTube learning has no structure—your learnings are scattered across random playlists, you're just passively watching without retention, and there's no one to ask when you don't understand something. I built Notetube to solves this by combining organizational tools with AI to create an actual learning system: Organizational layer: Create structured collections by topic/course/skill, track your learning progress with visual dashboards, and set achievable learning goals AI layer: Auto-generated comprehensive notes (3000+ words for 1 hours video) and summaries from any video, key…

Would you prefer reading podcasts, TED talks, or conversations instead of watching/listening to videos? If so, you might find this interesting. PaperTube lets you turn any YouTube video into an easy-to-read, well-formatted article with speaker names, and you can even get it on your Kindle. I've been working on this small project over the last week. Right now, it supports sending any video to Kindle. I'd love to hear if anyone is interested in this. Looking forward to your feedback and discussion! It's currently free because I have some free credits for the LLMs I'm using. I need to find…

Hi everyone! This project started with me manually doing the following process: Step 1: Get the transcript from youtube by clicking "show transcript" inside the description box Step 2: The transcript usually won't have any punctuation and have lots of mistakes, so paste it into ChatGPT to clean it up or summarize it. The idea here is to make this process as seamless as possible. What I ended up with was a Chrome extension [0] that adds a button in the YouTube UI that does all of this. Automating it allowed me to do a lot of cool things that would be hard to do manually: 1. I use the…

Hi everyone, I built this recently and found myself and my friends using it for various different things so I figured I'd share it here. It uses LLMs to answer queries from videos so you don't have to watch them yourself! Each video found is also included with a summary of its transcript for further exploration. Most importantly, it uses up-to-date videos and can answer question about real and recent things unlike ChatGPT. It is particularly useful for: 1. Getting up to date information about the news from different sources E.g. - What are the features of the recently released Apple Vision…
