Hi, I recently published my ebook on GNU awk one-liners [1]. It starts from the basics of awk syntax and then discusses one-liner examples. There's a chapter on regular expressions as well. The github repo has the details on how to get the PDF version, all the example files and code snippets used in the book, sample chapters as well the markdown source used to generate the PDF. I made all my ebooks [2] free last month amidst the pandemic fears. These include GNU grep & ripgrep, GNU sed and three books on regular expressions (Python, Ruby, JavaScript). I'd appreciate your feedback and hope…

Hi, I'm Ritinkar and I'm building metadocs, which is kind of like reddit built into every documentation ever. It's a chrome extension that allows discussion on any webpage to happen there itself. Currently I have built threaded comments, and a upvote/downvote system. Plus I've built this cool feature called Highlights, which lets you discuss specific lines in any documentation. As well as a feature called Top Hightlights, which shows the most interesting hightlights on any webpage. Hope you guys will try it out. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask me here. Thanks.

I work with AI tools often and I find myself constantly swapping between file types to navigate different sites and use cases. I built anydoc — I imagined a universal document format drive layer that would allow me to essentially have a file that is many different file types at once. CSV for organizing, markdown for feeding into LLMs, HTML for fast sharing... so here it is and I am working on making it better all of the time. Just shipped an update that makes the most relevant format types available faster on a document upload @boshjerns on X

htmldocs is an Overleaf-style editor for typesetting documents using HTML/CSS, which provides the same benefits as LaTeX while being more accessible, customizable, and familiar. I built this because I wanted to programatically generate invoices as well as automatically tailor my resume to jobs but had no good way of generating well-formatted PDFs. I ended up building a templating engine to Chromium rendering pipeline to generate PDFs, and due to the amount of engineering effort, turned it into a tool for others that might want to do the same. There's a built-in API…

I've developed a Python API service that uses GPT-4o for OCR on PDFs. It features parallel processing and batch handling for improved performance. Not only does it convert PDF to markdown, but it also describes the images within the PDF using captions like `[Image: This picture shows 4 people waving]`. In testing with NASA's Apollo 17 flight documents, it successfully converted complex, multi-oriented pages into well-structured Markdown. The project is open-source and available on GitHub. Feedback is welcome.

Hi HN, I’d like to introduce you to SmallDocs (https://sdocs.dev). SDocs is a CLI + webapp to instantly and 100% privately elegantly preview and share markdown files. (Code: https://github.com/espressoplease/SDocs) The more we work with command line based agents the more `.md` files are part of our daily lives. Their output is great for agents to produce, but a little bit frustrating for humans: Markdown files are slightly annoying to read/preview and fiddly to share/receive. SDocs was built to resolve these pain points. If you `sdoc…

Felt annoyed with Google Docs' "suggestions", and built an alternative that has git-style branch & merge for better collaboration. We're implementing OT via full-stack Clojure/Script, which was incredibly useful for code-reuse across client and server.

I like bash, and use it as often as possible. Sometimes the projects become large. I needed a tool to help generate documentation. Makes it easier to step away, come back after some time, and re-acquaint myself with the monstrosity I've wrought. `awkdoc` generates markdown documentation from in-line comments in shell scripts.
