Hi, Piotr here I was collecting nice open-source companies for quite some time now. Mostly to take some inspiration and learn from their code. Last week, I though it would be fun to learn this Astro thing everyone's talking about. So I thought building a directory website out of this collection was pretty good idea. After 2 days of building, OpenAlternative was born. It's a community driven list of open source alternatives to proprietary software and applications. Enjoy and thank you for your support!

For the past 3 years I have been working on a Golang port of plausible analytics dashboard. vince is a single binary, single user with multiple website system with zero runtime dependency. Key featues: - Automatic TLS - Outbounds link tracking - File downloads tracking - 404 pages tracking - Custom event tracking And so much more, basically everything that you see on plausible dashboard except funnels and custom properties. You can use vince as a drop in replacement for plausible for personal websites. The goal is to make the plausible dashboard easily accessible for people who like to self…

Hi HN, I'm Alon, and I'm building Alien, an open-source platform for deploying your software into your customer's environment and keeping it fully managed. In my previous startup, I heard the same question from every single enterprise customer over and over again: "My data is sensitive. Can I deploy your product to my own cloud account?" Self-hosting is becoming very popular because it lets users keep their data private, local, and inside their own environment. Unfortunately, self-hosting breaks down when someone starts paying for your software. Especially if it's an enterprise customer.…

I built this as a personal open-source project to explore how EU AI Act requirements can be translated into concrete, inspectable technical checks. The core idea is local-first compliance: – risk classification (Articles 5–15, incl. prohibited use cases) – bias evaluation using CrowS-Pairs – automatic Annex IV–oriented PDF reports – no cloud services or external APIs (browser-based + Ollama) I’m especially interested in feedback on whether this kind of technical framing of AI regulation makes sense in real-world projects.

i’m building a community-driven list of Awesome European Tech, browsers, productivity tools, FinTech, and more. that focus on privacy, sustainability, and innovation. The goal is to support European startups and companies (from the EU and EFTA) that choose to stay in Europe, helping to strengthen the European tech ecosystem. This list will highlight GDPR-compliant tools, eco-friendly platforms, and innovative solutions as alternatives to U.S.-based tech, showcasing the best Europe has to offer. I’ve already put together a small draft list, inspired by the great work of…

Hey people! I have been compiling a database of opensource alternatives and I'm super proud of it so far. It serves as a searchable directory for high-quality opensource. After tons of hours I've managed to compile a database of 1000+ opensource software. I've seen other sites which have the same premise and all the GitHub Awesome Lists, but they lack in showing if the repo is active, abandoned, experimental, buggy/unstable, has a restrictive license or corporate influence like this does. Thanks for your time, if you have any recommendations for features/additions I'd love to hear.

Hey HN, Eleven is the second project that I've built to learn Go. It lets you create code sandboxes, in your cloud provider account, easily. What's a "code sandbox"? Just a VM, running in your cloud provider account, with some runtimes pre-installed, your repositories cloned, a way to connect to it with your preferred editor (or via SSH) and a way to serve your apps easily via HTTP (with automatic HTTPS). You could use it as a remote development environment, to test some code or even to deploy your app. It's up to you. For example, to deploy a Node.JS app: $ eleven aws init hello-world…
