Hello HN, Today we're launching Koroworld, an AI app to generate studio-quality children's stories. The stories we create are designed to be created around you and your family. You add your children, yourself and your partner, and then pick a fun story setting like pirates or fantasy worlds. We spent months making sure our stories match the quality you'd expect from audio stories on platforms like Yoto or Tonies, with great narration, music, and engaging sound effects. Why use Koroworld? - Better Screen Time: Instead of repetitive YouTube videos or games, Koroworld stimulates imagination and…

Hi HN! I'd love your feedback for this AI storytelling game. Remember when you used to read choose-your-own adventure books as a kid? We're trying to re-create that. The site lets you create adventures by seeding them with parameters that end up feeding LLMs: title, genre, writing style, etc. Once you've done that, you can play your book like a game: with custom chapters, illustrations, voice narration, choices, and dice rolls. We’re really into the idea of merging the open-ended generative AI with goal-directed story arcs that the game author can control. Everything is open source (links…

Hey HN! I created Hanasu.ai after my 9-5 job as a side project. Previously I'd used Duolingo to learn Japanese, but failed spectacularly when I actually spoke with my roommate from Tokyo. Now, after OpenAI improved their Realtime audio model in December and reduced pricing, I spent my entire winter break building. So how does it work? Just choose a daily topic and converse with the AI model: (1) Didn't catch a phrase? Double tap to reveal a transcript. (2) Couldn't understand? Double tap for translations powered by Google. (3) Can't recall that intricate Chinese/Japanese character? Just…

I built an open source version of OpenAI Chronicle. Some design decisions I made: 1. Local first: OCR uses Apple Vision, summarization supports local AI providers via Vercel AI SDK. Nothing leaves your computer. 2. Multiple Provider: exposes MCP so any coding agents can use it. 3. Swift menubar app: efficient, low-footprint 4. Blacklist apps: password managers, messaging apps (Slack, WhatsApp, Messenger), mail clients are on default blocklist. Current Limitations: 1. Mac only. Mac-first is a feature. 2. Small local models with weak structured-output support will fail on generateObject. 3.…

For a while I've wanted to try out the new AI voices for long-form narration, but everything I found required a subscription that didn't justify my limited usage. I came across the open Kokoro model [0] and the voices are very good -- good enough to listen to for hours without the fatigue I got from legacy, robotic TTS voices. The model is 82m parameters and designed to run fast, but I still struggled to get reasonable times from CPU inference on my 12-core laptop. I thought a cloud-based GPU service would let me generate audiobooks fast enough to feed my own self-hosted library, and that…
