Products that do what Peer-to-peer mini r/place with Proof of Work does

Hi HN, This is a site where users can submit content and the shortest SHA256 value of nonce+content among them will make the site display the content. Very basic, without a blockchain. It's a static site with WebRTC and peer-to-peer. Why? I wanted r/place (Reddit canvas where users collaborate on a pixel grid), but with proof of work. This is my progress so far. It's a WebRTC app with peer to peer connectivity that forwards the best hashed values to other users, which verify them, display them and pass them on. There are many many improvements to be done (especially I should probably…

For the past 5 years or so I've been working on a ground-up redesign of Freenet, my peer-to-peer project from the early 2000s (now renamed Hyphanet). The new Freenet has been up and running since December along with some early applications like River[1], our decentralized group chat and Delta - a decentralized CMS. Users have already started to build their own apps on Freenet including games, and we have some interesting apps in development like Atlas, a search/recommendation engine. Architecturally, this new Freenet is a global, decentralized key-value store where keys are webassembly…

We built Nostr Web, a new way to publish and host websites that live entirely on the Nostr network instead of centralized servers. Each website is a collection of signed, verifiable Nostr events distributed across relays—so it can’t be taken down, censored, or lost. It includes: • DNS TXT records for domain-based discovery (_nweb.domain.com) • CLI publisher tool for versioned deployments (nw-publisher) • Browser extension (nw-extension) for native browsing experience • Relay v1.3.5 support for Nostr Web event kinds Try the live demo: https://nweb.shugur.com Repos:…

Hi HN, I’ve been working for the past 10 months on p2party, a TypeScript/C/WASM library which you can find at https://github.com/p2party/p2party-js and demo at https://p2party.com , that lets you spin up an encrypted peer-to-peer mesh with nothing more than a shared URL. Why I built it: I wanted something between https://file.pizza and “ephemeral Signal chat”, but with my custom cryptographic idea (I know I know... WebRTC is already encrypted and it is easy to go wrong etc.). The project started as a toy for sharing large DAW files with my…

I have decided to open source this project to increase trust even further. In case you have seen my previous posts, this is an update for berb.app, a WebRTC file sharing app. My goal is simple: send files between devices in real-time without installing crap or uploading to any servers.

Hi HN, I’m a recent CS graduate. During the past few months I wrote BinaryRPC, an open-source RPC framework in modern C++20 focused on low-latency, binary WebSocket messaging. Why I built it * Wanted first-class session support, pluggable QoS levels and a simple middleware chain (global, specific, multi handler) without extra JSON/XML parsing. * Easy developer experience A quick feature list * Binary WebSocket frames – minimal overhead * Built-in session layer (login / reconnect / heartbeat) * QoS1 / QoS2 with automatic ACK & retry * Plugin system – rooms, msgpack, etc.…

I built SecureShare to solve a common problem I faced: securely sharing files between devices without size limits or intermediary servers. What it does: - Direct P2P file/text/folder sharing using WebRTC - No file size limits (only constrained by local disk space) - No registration required - All data stays on your devices (no server storage) - Supports multiple simultaneous receivers - Custom retrieval IDs and QR codes for easy sharing - Works across platforms, mobile-optimized Technical details: - Built with Next.js + Tailwind + shadcn/ui - Backend: Node.js + Redis (minimal,…

I’d like to share a open source project I’ve been working on: Weblink, a pure web-based file transfer and chat application built on WebRTC. No downloads or installations are needed—everything works directly in your browser. Key features include: - Works seamlessly as a PWA for sharing files/text through the system - File synchronization and resuming interrupted transfers - Video calling - Clipboard and folder transfer (folders are auto-compressed) Weblink uses a serverless P2P architecture, supporting multiple backends like Firebase and self-hosted WebSocket, and ensures signaling…

I wanted to learn more about the HTTP/2 protocol but also deep dive into modern C++ development. I'm currently using it to host my personal web site - https://www.roberthargreaves.com. I've also blogged a bit about the development process, hosting options and steps I took to harden the application against attack - https://blog.roberthargreaves.com/2026/01/03/building-hostin... It's by no means a complete implementation of HTTP/2, but I think I've achieved the main aims I was hoping to achieve with it! I would love some feedback though from…
