Hey folks, I’m Hassan, one of the co-founders of Infracost (https://www.infracost.io). Infracost helps engineers see and reduce the cloud cost of each infrastructure change before they merge their code. The way Infracost works is we gather pricing data from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. What we call a ‘Pricing Service’, which now holds around 9 million live price points (!!). Then we map these prices to infrastructure code. This is a service I've built to provide equirectangular cloud maps of the whole Earth, updated every 3 hours, for free. It's based on infrared and visible light data from EUMETSAT, processed to enhance the clouds and try to reduce the impact of surface temperatures on the final image. I built it because it's surprisingly hard to find these kinds of images in a format that's useful to developers and hobbyists. I was building a 3D ISS tracker and wanted to include live clouds but couldn't find anything good, so I got sidetracked, and here we are.

I wanted to run AI from inside the JVM. I started out with the standard REST sidecar, ripped that out to use Project Panama (Foreign Function & Memory API) in the new JDK versions to interface directly with llama.cpp. I still wasn't happy with how that functioned, so I built libargus.cc to get a clean ABI to expose a structured API up in the JVM landscape. It still uses Project Panama to interface directly with llama.cpp, whisper.cpp, and ggml compute graphs. Me and a few friends have been working multy.dev, an open-source cloud agnostic API that makes it easy to deploy the same infrastructure to any cloud provider using native managed services.
