My friends and I were complaining about having to decipher incomprehensible code one day and decided to pass the code through GPT to see if it could write easily understandable comments to help us out. It turns out that GPT can but it was still a hassle to generate comments for large files. So we decided to develop a basic web application that automatically integrates with your Github repository, generate comments, create a pull request and send you an email when it is all done. There is definitely a lot more that can be done but we wanted to gain feedback on whether this is a problem that…

Hey developers I think we're tired of copying and pasting our codes and sharing links using PasteBin, GithubGist, or Slack. What if you could share the codes without copying the link and share them right from your favorite editor? That was the motivation for creating TurboGist. Right now, it's still in the MVP stage, and I'm trying to gather feedback from developers like you. It's available as a beta in the VS Code Extension store. Can you guys check this out? It'd help me a lot. You don't need to pay any penny, 100% FREE. However, I'm working on introducing a self-hosted feature. Besides, a…

Hello HN, I am building a devtool to understand existing codebases. The idea originates from my time at big tech as well as various attempts to get involved in open source projects. When I was in college I wanted to improve my coding skills by contributing to opensource projects. I would pickup a bug or feature request but I always found myself stuck at the very first step. I did not understood where and how to begin contributing. I once submitted a patch in firefox which was labeled "Good first issue" but that was still very handheld. The assigner told me exactly which files I need to…

Hey, fellow hackers! I'm excited to share my latest project, TinyCodeImprover, which has become an indispensable tool in my coding workflow. What is TinyCodeImprover? TinyCodeImprover leverages the power of GPT-4 to analyze and enhance your project files. By simply loading your code into the GPT-4 context, you can ask questions about your code, identify bugs, and even request GPT-4 to write code snippets across multiple files simultaneously. The Story Behind its Creation As a programmer, I frequently turn to GPT-4 for assistance with topics outside my expertise. However, I found the process…
