I built a system that monitors ~200,000 news RSS feeds in near real-time and clusters related articles to show how stories spread across the web. It uses Snowflake’s Arctic model for embeddings and HNSW for fast similarity search. Each “story cluster” shows who published first, how fast it propagated, and how the narrative evolved as more outlets picked it up. Would love feedback on the architecture, scaling approach, and any ways to make the clusters more accurate or useful. Live demo: https://yandori.io/news-flow/

Former investigative reporter turned developer. I built a simple breaking-news monitor because tracking events across platforms is a mess now that Twitter’s unreliable. Bluesky is the backbone (a fraction of twitter, but still lots of journalists and OSINT folks), plus RSS, Telegram, Reddit, YouTube and Mastodon. Everything is one chronological feed with no algorithm, clear source labels, and lightweight activity detection when a region spikes above baseline (frequency math, not LLMs). But we do have a (hopefully non-obtrusive) AI-generated recent/post summary. Been building for a…

Hi everyone, Not happy with the current news aggregators and thrilled about ML models for text processing, a colleague and I built an aggregator fully based on Doc2Vec: https://www.quicknews.ai/. We currently poll ~120 news sources every 15 minutes, and construct a personalized news feed for every user. There are plenty of ways in which Doc2Vec is used here: 1) Clustering the articles into topics 2) Deduping overly similar articles when generating the feed 3) Routing notifications about breaking news to interested users 4) Calculating similarity between…

Hello HN I visit a few sites news sites daily and wanted to see the headlines all on one page and also have it update itself throughout the day. It is not finished yet, but is usable enough to share. If you want to make a custom page, you can click the 'build your custom page' at the top, and select the feeds that are of interest to you. I haven't implemented it yet, but the feeds can be re-ordered as well, you just need to enter their names in the address bar, for example to show Tech Meme, BBC News and Tech Crunch you would write: nuntium.co.uk/f/?tm,bbc,tc Then bookmark that…

Hello HN! Particle News product engineer here. Keeping up with the news is overwhelming in an age of information overload. Particle reimagines the experience by organizing articles into comprehensive "Stories," offering clear, concise summaries to quickly grasp what matters. Today, we reached the #1 spot in "Newspapers & Magazine" on the iOS App Store—and I thought I'd share a bit of our backstory. I've been connected to this team for a long time. About 20 years ago, I shared a house with our CTO and co-founder Marcel Molina. I helped him get started with programming. Since then, Marcel has…

Hey guys! Press Hunt (https://presshunt.co) is a categorized database of almost 400k journalists, reporters, and media outlets. Finding the right journalists to pitch your business to––then finding their email address––is a nightmare. The data is spread out all over the internet, down the google rabbit hole, news sites, and twitter accounts. Research can take hundreds of hours on it’s own, not even counting the time it takes to run an effective email campaign. Over the last year we’ve run hundreds of PR campaigns for companies like Instacart and Dos Toros. Our campaigns have been…

I've always felt it a bit hard to grasp how far news reach and all. Because I'm also a bit behind on python, I decided to build something from scratch. It's really simple: docker compose, micro services connected to some very basic data pipelines using rabbitMQ, and some local NLP. The NLP portion is a bit slow as it's pure CPU and doesn't leverage GPU/NPE if you have them. The tool offers you to define your own "labels" and "relations", which are then picked up by the local NLP models to assign it to news articles. Standard, there are only a few included. But the goal is to have your…

I decided to build my own AI feeds reader since I wanted features I couldn't find, or at least not in the way I wanted to, for instance: - Filter news by interest/category - Cluster same story from different sources into one - Show short summary of each new so you can skip if it's not really that interesting to you - Track relevant AI figures, but not only their tweets and posts but also their appearences in articles and interviews I'm still tuning it and improving it everyday.
