Products that do what Pulsefeed builds a stream from your RSS feeds does
Pulsefeed has been developed on and off in my spare time over the last 4 months, I'm finally happy with it's basic set of features, and was wondering what the Hacker News community thought? Thanks :)

I've been working on and off on a Chrome Extension for Hacker News, the extension focusses on improved usability rather than design. I can almost guarantee that after a day you won't want to go back to regular Hacker News. Give it a try, features include: - Improved readability - Quick inline replies from comments page - Quick profiles with social network info when hovering over usernames - Filtering of stories based on terms and phrases / domain or user - Endless scrolling - Collapsible comment threads - Social sharing for Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Buffer Forks, improvements and comments…

I noticed I was getting side tracked reading Hacker News, checking back, reading articles, comments, etc. It felt like my productivity was being hampered so I created a simple web app to receive the most popular stories in a daily email. http://dailyhn.com

I built this app because I really enjoyed "Pulse" but I felt it lacked a few things. I wanted a web-based version, I wanted my news articles grouped together by topic, and I wanted an easy way to share with other people. It is early in the site's life, so somethings are missing, including the critical mobile app. If you have any feedback to give, it would be appreciated!

I built HackerBuddy.com with the idea of helping the Hacker News community get one-on-one help with fellow hackers that know their stuff. It matches up people that are good at a particular skill (Ruby on Rails, Python, beta-testing, general startup advice etc) with people that need that specialist help. All it does is swap your email address so that hackers can give fellow hackers one-on-one advice. I built the site as a way to learn Ruby on Rails, I'm still a bit green when it comes to coding so there's a very good chance that the server will fall over. Any feedback you guys have would be…

Former investigative reporter turned developer. I built a simple breaking-news monitor because tracking events across platforms is a mess now that Twitter’s unreliable. Bluesky is the backbone (a fraction of twitter, but still lots of journalists and OSINT folks), plus RSS, Telegram, Reddit, YouTube and Mastodon. Everything is one chronological feed with no algorithm, clear source labels, and lightweight activity detection when a region spikes above baseline (frequency math, not LLMs). But we do have a (hopefully non-obtrusive) AI-generated recent/post summary. Been building for a…

TLDR: The beta of my my site, Sparkmuse, has begun. Please join me at http://www.sparkmuse.com/invitation/Hacker-News . The Story: Well here it is, the beta of Sparkmuse. I'm pretty happy to "get there", but I'm really just relieved. Don't get me wrong, I'm F'ING STOKED to get this in front of some more valuable eyeballs, especially the Hacker News crowd. Right now though, I'm just leaning back in a rickety old chair thinking "I did it." Several months ago I was pretty down on myself. I wanted to get out there and meet new people, do cool projects, explore new technologies, and just jump…

http://hackernews.zopte.com 0 lines of code written and the entire operation took 2 hours. Its not perfect. It doesn't have the threaded comment view and the ranking is naive. But, I thought its worth showing off.

One year after I published https://HackYourNews.com, I've rewritten it to be fully client-side and added support for a few more news sources via RSS feeds. Though HackYourNews.com v1 had a great response on HN [1] and consistently had ~2k weekly unique visitors, I couldn't figure out how to sustain the site, and I didn't want to gate access to it. There were also many long-standing requests that I wanted to fulfill (thanks for your patience!): a proper auto-detected dark mode, mobile device support, and bulleted summaries. This rewrite is the result. The browser reads the contents…

Hello HN! I’m a developer from Brisbane, Australia, and I present to you: hackernews.life! The Hacker News visualisation that no-one asked for; the exuberant child of its minimalist namesake It’s detail rich – notice immediately which stories are gaining traction, which ones are generating conversation, which ones have gone toxic It’s fully time travelable – use the slider to go backwards and forwards in time; watch stories and comments grow, fight for rank, and die It’s fully keyboard navigable – using just the arrow keys you can skim through stories and top level comments; hit enter at any…

I built a little tool that lets you subscribe to posts, comments and users and get notified when they change. It needs an account on val.town, but that's about it. Also note, for top stories it can get quite chaotic.

Hey everyone, Common advice for inexperienced hackers suggests "scratching an itch." Like many others here, I spent too much time on HN, Google Reader and Twitter searching for interesting stuff, so I decided to write an app that brings interesting links to you with no other distractions. HighFive uses Twitter and bit.ly's APIs to find interesting links in your timeline. When you log in, you'll see a group of five links with voting arrows. No HN comments or RSS feeds with hundreds of links--just a few interesting articles that you can read, then get back to work. HighFive was built using…

I’ve been reading HackerNews for a long time, and often the upvoted articles are from great blogs I want to subscribe to. That’d be the job of an RSS feed reader. However, in my case, being subscribed to a blog doesn’t mean I want to read everything from that blog. I like to filter content before it gets into my reading list. This is why I developed Lighthouse. It is separated into inbox and library. The inbox is where newly published content appears in, where users can bookmark content they’re interested in, and mark the rest as seen to immediately archive it. The library is the place for…

I'd love any comments, suggestions or critiques on Newsfeedy (www.newsfeedy.com). It gathers trending topics from Twitter and Google and fetches news stories about them, and displays supplementary info from Twitter and Reddit. I originally created it for myself as a way to quickly catch up on breaking news, and a friend suggested it might be useful for others too. I know it's not groundbreaking, it's just a simple tool that saves 3 seconds of your life. And yes, I know that it's not very shiny. Thanks!
