24 alternatives to RSS Brain

I wrote an RSS reader called RSS Brain recently. The motivate is the current RSS readers either don't sort articles by priority, which makes it hard to read posts from HackerNews and Reddit, or sort it with some "smart" algorithm which I don't trust. I also like the Google News feature that can show related story from different source, but the sources are not configurable and the algorithm is not transparent either. So with RSS Brain, I implemented these features: * Recommend related articles from the feeds of your choice. It's backed by ElasticSearch and the algorithm is described on RSS…

RSS Brain is an RSS reader that prioritizes articles based on upvotes and time, similar to Reddit's ranking system. It recommends related articles from user-selected feeds using Elasticsearch, with a transparent… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. RSS Brain launched in 2022; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

Hi all! Excited to share rss2newsletter after completing dev work for the initial release. The idea for this project came out of necessity, as I wanted to share my articles via email newsletter. I was looking for a super minimal, lightweight, and open source solution, and when none existed, I decided to create one. For any sizable number of email recipients, a popular platform like Mailchimp will easily cost you hundreds or even thousands per month in per-contact fees. rss2newsletter, on the other hand, allows you to use Amazon SES, so you can reach your audience at pennies on the dollar.…

Well, I certainly tried. I had to, because it has a certain quirk inspired by "digital minimalism." The quirk is that it only allows you to fetch new articles once per day (or X days). Why? Let me explain... I want my internet content to be like a boring newspaper. You get it in the morning, and you read the whole thing while sipping your morning coffee, and then you're done! No more new information for today. No pings, no alerts, peace, quiet, zen, etc. But with that, I needed it to be able to fetch all articles from my hundreds of feeds in one sitting. This is where Zig and curl…

Hi all, since there are lots of discussions happening about news consumption, I would like to show you a project that I am working on - Feedpresso. https://www.feedpresso.com/ It focuses on content for techies and entrepreneurs so you can expect to get some interesting stuff right away. However, it is not a regular RSS reader - it heavily relies on algos to find exciting stories based on your reading history, from your sources. Also, it includes some abstractions over sources to make using RSS more natural. Give it a try. If there is an interest, I would gladly share some…

About a year ago, I built an RSS reader than had some features I couldn't find elsewhere at the time (specifically topic/keyword muting). I recently added the ability to listen to a daily podcast, generated from an individuals personal RSS feeds. While I think the idea is cool, I am curious if others would listen to a podcast they know is AI generated, on a more permanent basis? Would anyone subscribe to a personal AI podcast within their regular podcast client? AI content within social media seems poorly received (passive consumption), but NotebookLM was praised (perhaps because it is…

We all use different kinds of RSS feed readers to fetch news, but as the number of feeds we subscribe to grows, we may wake up to 400+ news items every morning, but very few RSS feed readers can suggest to us what to read first. Smart Reader is a Windows RSS reading app that has a built-in machine learning algorithm for suggesting interesting news. It learns by user's labeling of what news are interesting to them, and as the learning progresses, it will start suggesting among the user's subscribed feeds what it thinks the user might find interesting to read first. Smart Reader also tries to…
