Hey HN, I’m Jimmy, co-founder of Dropbase (https://www.dropbase.io). We are an internal tools builder for Python developers. All you have to do is import any Python scripts/libraries, declare UI components, and layer app permissions so you can share them with others. We’re a middle ground between Airplane and Retool—simpler UI creation than Airplane, more code-centered than Retool. UI building is declarative and you can bind Python scripts/functions to UI components. You can write Python scripts/functions using our App Studio with support from a Python Language…

PyTermGUI is a highly modular framework offering most of the features one would expect from a GUI library, such as a mature and open Widget API, animations, mouse support and other goodies, right inside the terminal! The markup language is another great feature of the library, and is used by practically all elements of it. It is based on Rich's implementation, but uses a more concise and easier to humanly parse syntax, while being over 10 times faster at parsing due to a long list of optimizations. There is a full Window Manager API included as well, allowing the user to move, resize and…

Hi HN, Recently, I’ve noticed there’s a decently high barrier to entry in developing competitive, full-stack SaaS applications. Beside the standard, boring features that take months to implement, you typically have to know several languages and frameworks, and be familiar with fancy frontend styling classes. I’m working hard right now to solve this problem by building PySaaS- The 100% pure Python SaaS starter kit. PySaaS is a boilerplate Python codebase that takes care of the fundamental components standard to all SaaS applications. The codebase uses the Pynecone web framework to compile…

Built this Python package because I wanted to run hardware controlling ML stuff and other control algorithms directly connected to industrial I/O hardware without jumping into annoying PLC toolchains (Windows only, licensing hassle, no editor choice, proprietary version control - you name it). For sure its not for ms‑cycle loops, or uptime critical production stuff, but in applications with relaxed timing it allows for fast iteration on the setup - making prototyping a pleasure. Its easy to use, has no dependencies beside Python, its fully type annotated and MIT licensed. Internal it…

I built Copapy as an experiment: Can Python be used for hard real-time systems? Instead of an interpreter or JIT, Copapy builds a computation graph by tracing Python code and uses a custom copy-and-patch compiler. The result is very fast native code with no GC, no syscalls, and no memory allocations at runtime. The copy-and-patch compiler currently supports x86_64 as well as 32- and 64-bit ARM. It comes as small Python package with no other dependencies - no cross-compiler, nothing except Python. The current focus is on robotics and control systems in general. This project is early but…

I have been working on Dear ImGui Bundle since 2022, but it is the first time I talk about it here. It is a framework around Dear ImGui for building interactive applications in Python and C++. It comes with batteries included: Plotting, image inspection, Markdown, node editors, 3D gizmos, knobs, toggles, etc. https://imgui-bundle.pages.dev It now also runs smoothly in the browser via pyodide: The playground below is a python app running in your browser (no server, no JavaScript). You can edit the code on the left and click Run. It even works on mobile.…

MicroPython (lexer, compiler and VM) on the SNES: 3.58 MHz 65816, 56 KB Python heap, 16-bit int. The REPL runs right inside the post via EmulatorJS and also works on real hardware via flashcart. I did this as a benchmark for Claude Fable. When the export ban hit, switching to Opus got the project stuck for three weeks; Fable came back and found the real bug in ninety minutes. Along the way: 23 compiler bugs and 4 MicroPython bugs, each root-caused with a minimal reproducer and filed upstream. If you run it on real hardware, I want a picture!
