I built this as a side project because I found existing family tree tools either too bloated or too manual—I spent more time dragging boxes and aligning lines than actually mapping my family history. My goal was to make it instant: you just add the names, and the auto-layout engine handles the hierarchy and spacing automatically. It runs entirely in the browser and exports high-res PNG/JPGs. Would love feedback on the layout logic (especially for complex families) and the overall UI flow. Happy to answer any questions!

I’ve been working on xPlant, a dashboard for managing plant tissue culture projects. It’s designed like a “GitHub for plants” — you can track growth, experiment with different media, and iterate on your cultures over time, similar to versioning code. The goal is to give hobbyists, researchers, and growers a tool to see what works, optimize conditions, and learn from past experiments. I’d love feedback from anyone who experiments with plants or cares about reproducible growth data.

Hey HN, I’d like to share Liam ERD, an open-source tool that automatically generates beautiful and interactive ER diagrams from your database schemas (PostgreSQL, schema.rb, schema.prisma etc.). We built it to address the common pain of manually maintaining schema diagrams and to help teams keep their database documentation always up-to-date. Key features: - Beautiful UI & Interactive: A clean design and intuitive features (like panning, zooming, and filtering) make it easy to understand even the most complex databases. - Web + CLI: Use our web version for quick demos on public projects, or…

I submitted this earlier today but go no response. So am trying again. Last time, promise. I am shortly to launch our new product - www.peopleplotr.com (web-based software for creating interactive people plots and family trees). Would love to hear what people think of the product. Bit of background: Used to run a boutique web dev agency (me and my wife and some freelancers). Decided to make the move into a product company in April last year when we launched www.tiki-toki.com (software for creating web-based timelines). PeoplePlotr is our second product.

Leafsnap is a project I've been working on for about 2 years and we finally launched yesterday! It's a free app for the iPhone (with an iPad version coming next week and an Android version later in the summer) that contains very high-quality images and descriptions of the tree species of the Northeast US. It also has an automatic-recognition feature that uses computer vision to help users identify trees by taking a photo of a leaf. This project is a joint collaboration between the computer science departments at Columbia University and the University of Maryland, and botanists at the…
