I'm building an online text-editor editor to write and save scientific documents fast. Here's a video of how it works: https://youtu.be/Hyk8CvCdEWE As an engineering student, I hated that handwriting was the only viable way to do fast or impromptu scientific writing. It would be the only way to take quick notes in class or in a lab, write an assignment, or create a presentation. Here's a few things I witnessed in academia: * Unsuitable editors: Students attempt to resort to text editors unoptimized for science, such as Notion or Word, to take notes and write assignments. *…

Hello HN, in 2017 I started a project that would become MonsterWriter. First envisioned as a semi-structured wiki it became a writing application specialized for scientific content. It is a perfect tool if you write your thesis. While it is focused on technical content, you can still see the knowledge management spirit in it. One or two years ago, my wife joined me in my efforts and redesigned the whole project and we recently released it as MonsterWriter2. To celebrate this milestone we are giving away free lifetime licenses for the Desktop version (till Apr 28). Just use the promo code…

Scipress is a writing platform with VS code editor built into the browser. It lets you make beautiful blog posts and programming docs with Markdown. Scipress supports code blocks with syntax highlighting, Katex, Tailwind CSS, images & videos, admonitions, popovers, blur screens, private posts, and a bunch of other cool stuff. You can also monetize via paywalls, if you want. I started this project almost a year ago to the date. This is my first time posting about it on HN. And if you're curious, I have made $0 from this project (but not for lack of trying).

Over the last two years, we’ve seen just how quickly science can move when it’s conducted out in the open, and the focus is on content rather than the publishing process. We’ve built a new way for researchers and scientists to communicate and share their findings with the world - rethought from first principles, with a lot more coming soon. Free to use, and available now for anyone with a university email address. We’re whitelisting organizations that conduct and publish research on a rolling basis. Please forward feedback and thoughts to [email protected] or comment here!

I was experimenting with building a local dataset generator with deep research workflow a while back and that got me thinking. what if the same workflow could run on my own files instead of the internet. being able to query pdfs, docs or notes and get back a structured report sounded useful. so I made a small terminal tool that does exactly that. I point it to local files like pdf, docx, txt or jpg. it extracts the text, splits it into chunks, runs semantic search, builds a structure from my query, and then writes out a markdown report section by section. it feels like having a lightweight…
