Products that do what Scrim TV - Connect, Collaborate and Create does

Hey HN! Scrim TV (www.scrim.tv) is a place for creators to connect, collaborate and create. I started working Scrim TV after trying to get into video content creation. Growing up watching SNL every weekend I wanted to try and create my own sketch comedy videos. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be to find people with that same interest. So instead of making a few friends, I made a website. That felt super reasonable. There's still a ton to iron out and a few wonky behaviors, but you can create an account and browse/message other creators. Right now all messaging is just done…

Hey fellow HN-ers, I'd like to ask HN about my latest startup: SocialFolders. We take a Dropbox-like approach to managing your content on your social networks by mirroring all the content you have on these networks in folders on your computer. Moving this content around, between folders or between services, is mirrored in the all-mighty "cloud" (ugh, I hate this word). We'd love to know what you think. We think our approach solves the problem of managing content at scale. We put together a quick 2'30 screencast to show HN how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s2TFsVezZQ If you want…

I treated myself to a solo hackathon this weekend and built https://next-season-of.com. The data is scrapped from IMDB and the website is generated using the hugo template engine. There's still a lot of optimization to be done but I'm planning to use this as a learning ground to try and get my pages to rank in Google. It would be really cool to search "next season of Ozark" and see a link to next-season-of.com.

Hi guys, I launched a two-day app at a Hacker News London meetup last year. It's called SWYM: Share What You Make. Check it out here - http://swym.me The idea is simple and in a way inspired from Show HN posts. Every time someone posts something cool here, someone asks how did you make it? So Swym provides a simple way to share the tools and people you built your projects with. I put it on the shelf after presenting it last year, but it's one of those things that kept coming back at me. So, I decided to bring it back to life. Here's the full back story - http://swym.me/story If there's…

Hey HN!! Many of us enjoyed the "If YouTube had actual channels" Show HN post last week. As developers of a similar project, we wanted to share our approach to building a simulated live experience. We’ve spent around 18 months working on this and have managed to add some advanced features, including content-based interactivity. We are super excited to be releasing both the live stream and the code behind it. Our idea was to combine the communal watching experience of television with the modern trappings of the interactive web. If you go to the stream, you will be watching along with everyone…

Hi HN community! A huge number of startup founders are reading Hacker News, but it's still very hard to make new personal connections here and help each other with product building, growth, or fundraising. As an experiment to make HN founder community more connected, I've created a system of chat groups, organized by location, industry sector, and priority tasks. We were testing it out for the last couple of weeks, starting with 200+ YCombinator alum companies. Now already have 1000+ startups there, and 80+ venture investors have joined to connect with founders early. Many pitch practices…

Local to Mountain View (South Bay) === SHOW HN IN REAL LIFE === == What == A recurring local meetup for people building stuff to show others their stuff (and hang out with other people building stuff). == Why == Building stuff alone at home is lonely and sometimes you get stuck with an obscure technical problem that someone else has already figured out. Also, having a peer IRL support group that meets regularly can help keep you accountable to shipping that cool half-baked hobby project of yours, even if version 0.1 isn't pretty. And oh, make some cool new friends. == Where == Mountain View,…

This is something fun I’ve been hacking on recently: ridiculously simple group chat. Go to http://faces.io and then get your friends to do the same. That’s it! :-D Currently works best in Chrome. It’s definitely beta status at best. Audio can get weird—be ready to mute. ;-) Let me know what you think!

Hey, This is my first Show HN. I've built GoNevis, a blogging platform where people can have a blog. It's in a very early stage but has its core features that people would expect from such system. Main website: https://www.gonevis.com/ Announcement post: https://blog.gonevis.com/gonevis-the-blogging-platform/ I appreciate your feedbacks.

I created a pet project to see if it is of use and interesting to people. The idea is on-demand real-time chat rooms for trending topics and for personal use. You can go to the main page at www.urshoutbox.com to create your own room then share it across your social networks/email, etc. I created a hacker news specific "shoutbox" at http://www.urshoutbox.com/bLmYAL/hacker-news . If nobody is in there, please be patient and (I hope) people will join soon to start talking. The idea is to have trending topics on facebook/twitter/etc and have chat rooms to get…

This server started a few weeks ago via some HN comments. It's very unofficial! There'll probably be some negative comments about discord. I know that many people dislike discord. (Side note: I hope more founders build discord alternatives) If you're active on discord and would like a HN channel, feel free to join. The server has the same guidelines as HN: > On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That includes more than hacking and startups. If you had to reduce it to a sentence, the answer might be: anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity. > Off-Topic:…

Hey HN, I've been a long time HN reader and here is my first contribution. Hoodsup.me is a chat-based matchmaking app built on top of your Facebook social graph. It matchmakes you with people who are geographically close to you and with whom you share common points. You can optionally activate your webcam to talk face-to-face with your partner. Think of it as a Sonar meets a genital-free Chatroulette. I would love to get some feedback. It's only optimized for WebKit for now. No signup is required so just stop by and say hi! :) Clickable link: <a…

We did a "Show HN post" 6 months back of our startup and we're very excited to show everyone how far we've come as well as the lessons we've learnt so far! It's been a roller-coaster so far and we think there's lot more of the same to come! We did apply for Ycombinator funding but got turned down :( But may re-apply soon :) For those that don't know, our startup is called Scirra and we make Construct 2 which is an HTML5 game engine (http://www.scirra.com). Our engine allows anyone to make HTML5 games without knowing any programming. It's only me and my brother working on this and we're based…

Hello, HN. I'm a long-time lurker here and this is my first Show HN (be gentle). I created Glue which is best described as "Twitter meets Tumblr meets Medium" which is longer than just saying another Twitter alternative but IMO not 100% accurate. I launched Glue in mid '21 and have been slowly iterating on it since. Glue lets you share text, photos, video, audio, code snippets, quotes or break out into a long-form blog post. Posts on Glue are called "Drops". Glue in action: - My profile: https://glue.im/noah - Audio:…

I am re posting this because when I had made this post the first time there were a few problem with the site that I had to fix and had not anticipated. I got some nice feedback though, so I thought I'd just make one more post because most of the problems have been fixed. HN Live is an alternative interface to Hacker News which provides all of the data on Hacker News in real time. This allows for the real time viewing of what goes into and leaves the trending page as well as the `newest` section. It is just a personal project, and I would like some feedback if you have any. Thanks Site:…

Hey HN, My co-founders and I have been working on a project for the last month or so, and we'd like to get your input on it. We wanted to hear your thoughts on what we're doing - so check out our landing page, and let us know what you think/understand. Does it sounds like something you guys would want to use? http://www.thesharedweb.com/alpha/intro We'll tell you guys more about exactly what we're doing as the conversation evolves, but we just wanted to see what the initial reaction is, and what you understand (i.e. are we describing it in a way that makes sense). Do you want to monetize a private group/ channel/ community? Use Subjoin to create a personal membership page in minutes. It's easy to use and free to try out. No need to integrate Stripe if membership is free. - - - - I have never built something this fast, what a thrill! I saw there was no easy way to create a simple subscription page. Big platforms are confusing and expensive for simple needs. - - - - What are you building? Would love to connect with like-minded people on X: @tjmakingof

Hi HN -- After a thread a couple of weeks ago (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28866242) got more attention than I expected, and someone even suggested doing a Show HN (thanks wanderingmind)-- so, here goes: We're building a network of local journalists, along with others in national verticals. Our incentive structure exists in a way to promote news people want to come back to read, not clickbait headlines, divisive or anger driving hot takes, or lowest common denominator coverage. All geared to 18-34 year olds, who are less likely to consume local news in the traditional…
