I had a successful startup exit five years ago (we got very lucky) but recently realized I'm most happy when building software products. I spend the last ~2 months building this as a fun way to get back into software development; and to find out what all the kids are up to these days. I am also a passionate life-long Japanese learner so this project was really fun. It's been nutz how different things are now with all the AI whatnot. This for sure would have taken me a year, without all the AI. I did not spend much time doing market analysis or any of that jazz. Mostly because I was…

Zeno▲244Hey guys well basically…yeah…I hate GoogleNoteLLM and other AI YouTube Summarizers. They feel meh…boring. I actually like youlearn.ai but it’s built for students. So, as a builder. I built my own AI YouTube Curator, Zeno, and hit #1 Product of the Week on Product Hunt. What I can say is that Zeno is your AI-powered second brain for YouTube. Ah, btw now it’s fully optimized for mobile, with the most evolutionary features in the AI YouTube summary space yet. The best part? Since this last update, I’ve stopped using YouTube. I only Zeno. With Zeno 2.0 on mobile, you can: Import your favorite…

Hey HN, I've been working on this side project for the past month. It generates a step-by-step tutorial guide for YouTube videos that you can follow along without watching long videos. Best suited for tutorial videos but can work for other videos aswell. No BS. Just straight to the point. The guides are generated from pure transcript so you don't have to worry about it being AI. It's my first project as a total beginner. Something I had to do inorder to get out of tutorial hell. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or if you face any problems or bugs. I would try to fix them to the…

The idea is actually quite simple. As a Japanese learner and a coder, I've always wanted there to be an open-source, 100% free for learning Japanese, similar to Monkeytype in the typing community. Unfortunately, pretty much all language learning apps are closed-sourced and paid these days, and the ones that are free have unfortunately been abandoned. But of course, just creating yet another language learning app was not enough - there has to be a unique selling point. And then I thought to myself: why not make it crazy and do what no other language learning app ever did by adding a gazillion…

Hello! I love anki and have been using it for years to learn mandarin, but I'm lazy and always struggled to get over the "motivation hump" to sit down and create a deck. Recently I've been consuming a lot of AI content from youtube, and spent 3 days creating a deck for Andrej Karpathy's "Deep Dive into LLMs" video. This is impractical - so I built a little youtube to anki converter @ asimpleai.com It's rough around the edges... but I would like it to eventually become something useful to community. Feedback and suggestions are welcome! peace

Hi Everyone, I recently wanted to learn Japanese with duolingo but it kept giving me repetitive lessons. So I built an app that gives a variety of lessons from anime. You can try it out here:https://kanjieight.vercel.app/ Thanks everyone.

Hey HN! I created Hanasu.ai after my 9-5 job as a side project. Previously I'd used Duolingo to learn Japanese, but failed spectacularly when I actually spoke with my roommate from Tokyo. Now, after OpenAI improved their Realtime audio model in December and reduced pricing, I spent my entire winter break building. So how does it work? Just choose a daily topic and converse with the AI model: (1) Didn't catch a phrase? Double tap to reveal a transcript. (2) Couldn't understand? Double tap for translations powered by Google. (3) Can't recall that intricate Chinese/Japanese character? Just…

I'm documenting everything about my process. From learning to code, to building the app, and all the way to my outreach efforts. I'm learning as I go and sharing it with everyone who's not a programer, and is daunted to build a software on their own. Trust me. If I can do it, anyone can! I'd like to tell you about InterSub, a tool that I've been developing out of my pain of learning languages. I found watching videos the best working option for me because it allows me to advance in language almost without spending extra time. I watch videos - series, TV shows, documentaries etc. not less an hour a day and switching on watching in the learned language gave me an extra hour of practice. I wasn't satisfied with solutions which I'd found on the market, and I decided to make a better one. With InterSub, one can watch videos on your favorite platforms like YouTube, Netflix,…

I got mass jealous of all these fancy explainer videos, so I built something I like designing, it's genuinely satisfying work. But motion design? That's a different beast. Time-consuming doesn't even begin to cover it. I kept seeing all these polished explainer videos on X or reddit. Smooth transitions, perfectly timed text animations, the whole package. And every time I thought "I could do that for my project", then reality hit. Learning AE properly takes a lot of time. Existing browser tools are either too basic or feel like piloting a spaceship. So I did what any reasonable developer does…

Hi hn, Its been a while since my kid has been dreaming to make videogames, as you know, the entry bar is high, too many technical details are involved. A few months ago, we started making games, we have tried many different ways, from dragging blocks to write code with a high-level library to make it simple, it is still too much work. Getting into the AI boat, I decided to give it a try for making games, turns out that it works super nicely, still, you still have many technical concepts involved, what language should the game be written in? where do you store the file/assets? how do you…

Now, you can get the gist of those long vids without breaking a sweat! Built from the ground up as a solo developer, it's been an incredible journey full of late nights, countless coffees, and the spirit of indie hacking The amazing response from our private release has motivated me on to start building even more features. Can't wait for you to check it out and share your thoughts! Try Summify.io now and let's me know what…

Hi HN! I'm Amber (13) and my dad Raj, and we built Nityasha AI from Guna, India. After my dad's 12 years of failed startups (2012-2023), we created a personal AI assistant that handles email, coding help, research, and planning in one conversational interface. I started coding at 9 on a 4GB RAM laptop. We failed 8 times before this—coupon sites, freelancing platforms, consulting. Nityasha is different: it uses Thesys generative UI for visual charts, includes Study Mode with Socratic teaching, and integrates everything so you don't need 10 tabs open. 500+ active users now. We just launched…

Think of HackerNews, but only for AI content. Did build this out of the wish for easier discoverability of new technologies in the AI/ML space. Obviously, so far only a tiny small community, but maybe a few of you find it nice to be around and want to post a link there every now and then :)

Hi HN! In the last couple of weeks I've been working on Cranki: Cranki = Crosswords + Anki. (It's a stupid name tbh, haha) I like doing crosswords in Spanish (to learn vocab) but none of the apps out there allowed me to use my own list of words that I come across. So I built one instead. It's entirely client-side. No server, no database, no accounts, etc. Your words and stats are stored in local storage. I built this for myself but let me know if you like it!

Hey there! I'm Sami. Over the past year, I've been busy building apps for clients, and I always found it challenging to discover a great animated component library. So, I took it upon myself to learn how to create beautiful animations. It was tough at first, but with persistence and a lot of practice, I eventually started crafting some really impressive animations for my clients! Now, I'm excited to share some of my favorite creations with you on my platform, DynaUI. I'd love to hear what you think!

Hi HN, I’m Ashu, founder of VideoDB. I’ve spent a big chunk of my life building video infrastructure. Not video creation. Video plumbing. The stuff you only learn after production breaks: timebases, VFR, keyframes, audio sync drift, container quirks, partial uploads, live streams, retries, backpressure, codecs, ffmpeg flags, cost blowups, and “why is this clip unseekable on one player but fine on another”. This week we shared VideoDB Skills, a skill pack that lets AI agents call those infra primitives directly, instead of you wiring pipelines with screenshots plus FFmpeg glue. Repo:…

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.wtfsoftware.wtfgeneratorfunnypics I submit it as a proof that in 14 days anyone can become a (crappy) programmer :) I'm 32, educated in humanities, I work in a bookstore and in my entire life I have never tried programming. Just a typical user, I knew basic HTML, like adding bold to text etc. Few months ago I started lurking on hackernews, I read about CodeAcademy and decided to learn how to code JavaScript. Hey HN, When I was learning to code I was always intrigued to see the guys on twitter making money with a SaaS. I always wondered how to make them and after a few months I developed my own. I'm an ML engineer. I know how AI works, the limitations, the hype. And I was still drowning. Couldn't stick to goals. Couldn't stay consistent. Productivity apps became digital clutter. Therapy waitlists were 3 months out. Friends were tired of my complaints. So at 2am I started building: zropi.com What shocked me was it actually worked. It felt human. Last week I mentioned a tough client call. Didn't set a reminder. Two days later it voice messaged me: "Hey, how'd that call go? You seemed stressed." When does technology ever do that? What makes it feel alive: It doesn't reply instantly.…
