A couple of months ago, I built this app to help identify people stuck under rubble. First responders have awesome tools. But in tough situations, even common folks need to help. After what happened in Myanmar, we need something like this that works properly. It has only been tested in controlled environments. It can also be improved; I know BLE is not _that_ effective under rubble. If you have any feedback or can contribute, don't hold back.

Hi HN, I’ve wanted a simple solution to handle Wake-on-LAN sequences for my home and work labs to boot up servers in the right order. I was already dabbling in Rust and thought this would be an interesting project to dive deeper and see if it could work well for this kind of network tool. The result is rallyup. rallyup lets you set up server dependencies in a YAML file, so each service (e.g., firewalls, storage, VM hosts) comes online in the right order. It verifies each server’s status before moving to the next. Features: - Dependency-based WOL with VLAN support - Built-in health checks…

I've decided to open source the project I've been working on called Hyperspace. Hyperspace is a suite of software implementing a wireless mesh network for IoT devices. My main requirements are listed on my repo but I'll copy them here. 1. The mesh shall enable nodes to route packets amongst themselves. 2. The mesh shall allow nodes with limited power to participate in routing packets. 3. The mesh shall be IPv6 based. 4. The mesh shall be local. I.E. not require connection to a remote server. 5. The mesh should provide 3D location to nodes in the network. Nodes use the Decawave DW1000 UWB…

Hi HN, I’m building Corviont, a self-hosted offline maps appliance (tiles + routing + search) for edge/on-prem devices. Hosted demo (no install): https://demo.corviont.com/ Self-host (Docker Compose repo): https://github.com/corviont/monaco-demo Docs: https://www.corviont.com/docs What’s inside: - Vector tiles served locally (PMTiles) - Routing served locally (Valhalla) - Offline geocoding/search + reverse (SQLite Nominatim-based index) - MapLibre UI wired to the local endpoints After the initial image + data pulls, it runs fully…

Hello HN. I’d like to start by saying that I am a developer who started this research project to challenge myself. I know standard protocols like MCP exist, but I wanted to explore a different path and have some fun creating a communication layer tailored specifically for desktop applications. The project is designed to handle communication between desktop apps in an agentic manner, so the focus is strictly on this IPC layer (forget about HTTP API calls). At the heart of RAIL (Remote Agent Invocation Layer) are two fundamental concepts. The names might sound scary, but remember this is a…
