DataBlur▲131We blurred, pixelated and redacted sensitive text at 10 strengths and tried to get it back. Light blur came back 92-100% of the time. One method leaked nothing.

Hi When you are learning a new language, you need to practice different skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing. I find writing to be the hardest activity, not least because I have to look up words in the dictionary all the time, and that is a frustrating context switch. Here is an experimental CodeMirror-based editor, that lets you look up translations inline. Type @ followed by the English word, and get a list of possible translations, and select the translation to apply it. Online demo: https://foreign-dispatch-autocomplete.netlify.app/

Sabela is a reactive notebook for Haskell. The name is the Ndebele word for "to respond." Cells respond to each other on change. Initially it was meant as a tool for working with data but it has turned out to have a lot of pedagogical value outside of data analysis work. There is a gallery to read through on the website and a number of examples in the repo showcasing things like: * Python interop * Widgets and animation * Exploratory data analysis If you find any of this interesting please try it out. Any feedback is welcome.

The url can be found in the first comment. To scratch my own itch, I created a simple tool that should be helpful to many of us who are under constant distractions. If anyone uses this and finds it effective or ineffective, please kindly share your experience. Below are some ways I think it can be put in use: 1. Before we start a work day, we can use it to clear up random thoughts and anxiousness. 2. We can use it regularly to increase our attention span. Note: This was posted several years ago. I only made very minor changes since last time. I'm reposting it and hope to see some feedback on…

Hi HN, Antonio here. Founder of Seltz. Seltz is a web search API built for AI agents. We wrote the crawler, the index, and the retrieval models ourselves, in Rust, by a team that's spent years building web search at scale. In our tests, queries come back in under 200ms. Efficiency was the first design principle. Search sits on the critical path: agents can't generate their first tokens or kick off the next tool call until results come back. When you run tens or hundreds of queries in parallel, every millisecond of tail latency compounds. Most search APIs for agents are wrappers around Google…
