Text editor with inline English-German dictionary
Hi When you are learning a new language, you need to practice different skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing. I find writing to be the hardest activity, not least because I have to look up words in the dictionary all the time, and that is a frustrating context switch. Here is an experimental CodeMirror-based editor, that lets you look up translations inline. Type @ followed by the English word, and get a list of possible translations, and select the translation to apply it. Online demo: https://foreign-dispatch-autocomplete.netlify.app/
Text editor with inline English-German dictionary launched on November 17, 2022 with 35 votes, #1,111 of 3,471 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.
In plain words
This is a CodeMirror-based text editor designed for language learners who struggle with writing practice. Users can type @ followed by an English word to instantly view and select English-German translations without leaving the editor, eliminating the frustrating context switch of checking a separate dictionary. The tool streamlines the writing practice experience by keeping vocabulary lookups inline and immediate.

Right now, each card costs me about $20 each, but with only a bit more scale, I think I can get that down to $10. In doing this project, I learned how to design electronics and circuit boards. I learned Rust and wrote my first driver, I upped my CAD skills, 3D printed, and did my first resin casting. I generated the images on the…
