Originally started as a project to restore patterns from now defunct website 808.pixll.de just for myself, but eventually i decided to share it with others. I've seen this website mentioned a couple of times on HN:) Currently it only supports Roland TR-808, but there will be more.

As an enthusiast of Indian classical music, I needed to write music notations in the traditional typeset format. When I didn't find any existing editors, I developed a Swara Notebook, a mobile focused web app to write North Indian Classical (Hindustani) music notations. The notes (called Sargam, similar to Solfege) can be written in English, Devnagri and Bangla scripts. The transcribed song can be played back in 6 different rhythmic cycles (Taal) to the accompaniment of the Tabla(a type of drum) or a metronome. Here's an example of a transcribed song…

If you already know what bytebeat is, you don't need an explanation. If not, check my project :) Here is how it looks: SELECT mono(output( arraySum(x -> 1 / 6 * running_envelope(30 * (1 + x / 6), time, 0.05 * x, 0.005, lfo(0, 0.25, sine_wave, time / 8), 0.1) * sine_wave(time * 80 * exp2(x / 3)), range(12)))) FROM table; To check how it sounds, find the examples in the repository https://github.com/ClickHouse/NoiSQL

I've listened to SID music on and off since the 80s, and mostly from early games and demos. Lately, I have explored more recent music. There are online lists of peoples favorite SID music, and online players, see [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]. Because I have different tastes, I had the motivation to make my own list and UX. So from january 2020 to september 2022, I listened through the HVSC having over 50k songs, resulting in a list of 600-700 favorites. I put together a UX so I can easily access them. This project is mostly for my own enjoyment, but I guess that many others here would also enjoy…

Recently moved to Egypt, and in dire need to get the numbers down. Great excuse to explore learning software some more. Possibly very niche, but maybe it is useful for someone else out there. Feedback is always welcome.

Hey everyone! Excited to share CloneDub - a tool that allows you to convert audio into any language while keeping the same voices. We currently translate to: English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Italian, German, Polish, and Portuguese. The voices are cloned so that the podcasters sound the same! For example, if you were to upload a Lex Fridman podcast interviewing Sam Altman and requested that it was translated into Hindi, it would sound like Lex Fridman and Sam Altman, but just in a different language/accent! How does CloneDub work? Audio Upload: Upload your audio file, paste a YouTube…

SourceLibrary.org is currently the world’s largest online library of translated ancient sources. It contains over 15,000 books translated from dozens of languages (Latin, Greek, Chinese, Sanskrit, Arabic, Hebrew, Egyptian, etc)—from sacred texts to early science. Our vision is to make ancient wisdom accessible to both people and AI. Did you know that less than 3% of the Latin Renaissance has ever been translated into English? This is ironic, because translations of ancient Greek wisdom texts are historically credited with helping to ignite the Renaissance. Yet, the Renaissance itself was…

I saw The Mahjong Guide (https://themahjong.guide/) today and loved how much a good visual explanation can do for an old game. Around the same time, this HN thread about using coding assistants to revive projects you never were going to finish (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47902525) pushed me to actually do something with the idea. That combination sent me down a nostalgia rabbit hole. Thaayam / Dayaakattai is one of those games I played during childhood summers in Tamil Nadu with cousins, and this being summer again just brought those memories…

I'm a multilingual reader (Catalan/Spanish/English/Italian), and I kept hitting the same wall: I'd hear about a book and have no way to know if it existed in my language. Turns out this is a genuinely unsolved problem. There's no single database that tracks which books have been translated into which languages. ISBN registries are fragmented by country. Open Library has great English coverage but gaps elsewhere. Wikidata has surprisingly rich translation data but it's locked behind SPARQL. Google Books is inconsistent across regions. So I built Zenòdot to cross all four and…
