I wrote this small client to read hackernews from my favorite editor. It's currently using an external HTTP API [0] but I'm working on my own proxy [1]. I'd love to actually scrape and cache all the info I need using lisp. However, my time constraints are keeping me away of that goal. I could definitely use some help here! :) I'm also planning to add support for comments and posting new things. Any feedback is highly appreciated! Thank you! Hey HN, I made this free browser extension that modernizes the Hacker News design. I previously launched Modern for Wikipedia [1] here back in December, and it seemed like the obvious next choice to build one for HN too! I love HN but always felt the search with algolia is okay but does have some limitations. Since I work at Vectara I decided to try and create a better search for HN. My personal itch to scratch just recently has been the umpteen formatting foibles of HackerNews. So, in the spirit of making the web more personal again, I knocked up a TamperMonkey userscript to fix up the worst of my personal bugbears. Lately I've felt exhausted due to the deluge of AI/GPT posts on hacker news, and have seen similar grumblings. I threw together this frontend that filters out anything with the phrases AI, LLM, GPT, or LLaMa for use until the hype dies down a bit. Before anyone asks, yes I did try to use ChatGPT to help, and while the code it provided was helpful, it needed some heavy bug-fixing. Edit: One other note I forgot to mention. The favicon is generated by Stable Diffusion, I asked it to generate an "Aritificial Intelligence Favicon", and then I added the red circle with line through it.

I forked pajecawav's better-hn repo, which turned out to be an excellent foundation to build on. While the original implementation was clean and functional, it didn't quite capture the essence of Hackernews. More importantly, it was missing some features I considered essential for a truly viable alternative. After tinkering with it for a while, I think I've nailed it—at least for my own use case. Hey HN, I wanted a way to quickly see only the YouTube videos being shared on Hacker News without wading through other links. So, I built this little tool. I used to use https://news.ycombinator.com/from?site=youtube.com to check YouTube links, but it lacked thumbnails, so I built one just to do it.
