Just for fun I decided to see if I could use chatGPT to solve NYT Connections word puzzles. It uses a pretty straightforward BFS search in which the LLM is first prompted to generate several possible groupings of four related words, and then a different prompt is used to evaluate the soundness of each of those groupings. This approach seems to be able to produce the correct solution somewhat less than half the time. Some observations: * For whatever reason, chatGPT-4 seems to be a bit worse than 3.5 at generating Connections groupings. I haven’t tested systematically so maybe this is just…

I kept running into this annoying problem: I’d remember a really useful answer, but not where it was. ChatGPT? Claude? Gemini? No idea. So I’d end up digging through all of them or just rewriting the prompt. Built this to fix that. It’s a Chrome extension that indexes chats locally and lets you search across them all in one place. Once it’s indexed, search is basically instant. Still early. UIs change and break things sometimes, so it’s a bit fragile in places. Curious if other people have the same issue or if it’s just me jumping between tools too much.

I built this using semantic search and the ChatGPT API, which was just released the other day. What makes it special is it not only understands the code you're debugging, but also pulls in additional context like relevant documentation to help answer your questions and suggest code changes. Ultimately, my goal is to take the hassle out of pasting error messages into Google, finding a vaguely related StackOverflow post, and manually integrating the solution into your code.

It has been a while since I have shared my app, that I made to be able to practice my Danish while chatting with my grilfriend - I often used GPT to write as much as I can in Danish, and I replaced the words I didn't know with {Englis words in curly braces}. I'm building an AI platform, FlowChai and found a neat use case for it today that I thought would be useful to HN readers. I use GPT4 heavily for writing / editing code, but a major downside is that it doesn't know about new projects. I made the connection today that I could upload the zip file of a Github repo to FlowChai and then write prompts just like with ChatGPT with code questions. While the original intent for this platform is more around natural language, it's neat how this works so well. It's powered underneath by pgvector and OpenAI embeddings.
