Products that do what SQLiteChangesetSync – Git-Like Sync for SQLite Databases does
Hello HN! I’m happy to introduce SQLiteChangesetSync, a Swift package I’m sharing for the first time. It’s designed for offline-first synchronization of SQLite databases across devices. The package uses the SQLite Session Extension for capturing and committing changes in the local database. When the client is online, these changesets can then be pushed to a shared repository, which could be any server or database (example CloudKit implementation included). Other clients can fetch these changesets to keep their local databases consistent. SQLiteChangesetSync supports branch merging when…

Hi HN, Today we’re launching PowerSync, a Postgres<>SQLite bi-directional sync engine that enables an offline-first app architecture. It currently supports Flutter, React Native and web (JavaScript) using Wasm SQLite in the browser, with more client SDKs on the way. Conrad and I (Ralf) have been working on our sync engine since 2009, originally as part of a full-stack app platform. That version of the system is still used in production worldwide and we’ve learnt a lot from its use cases and scaling. About a year ago we started on spinning off PowerSync as a standalone product that is…

Hi HN, James, Valter, Sam and the team from ElectricSQL here. We're really excited to be sharing ElectricSQL with you today. It's an open source, local-first sync layer that can be used to build reactive, realtime, offline-capable apps directly on Postgres with two way active-active sync to SQLite (including with WASM in the browser). Electric comprises a sync layer (built with Elixir) placed in front of your Postgres database and a type safe client that allows you to bidirectionally sync data from your Postgres to local SQLite databases. This sync is CRDT-based, resilient to conflicting…

I recently released v3 of Base, my SQLite editor for macOS. The goal of this app is to provide a comfortable native GUI for SQLite, without it turning into a massive IDE-style app. The coolest features are - That it can handle full altering of tables, which is quite finicky to do manually with SQLite. - It has a more detailed display of column constraints than most editors. Each constraint is shown as an icon if active, with full details available on clicking the icon. This update also adds support for attaching databases, which is a bit fiddly with macOS sandboxing. I'd love to hear any…

Hi! As I was working on a side project, I noticed I wanted to use SQLite like a Document Database on the server. So I built Doculite. DocuLite lets you use SQLite like Firebase Firestore. It's written in Typescript and an adapter on top of sqlite3 and sqlite. Reasons: 1) Using an SQL Database meant having less flexibility and iterating slower. 2) Alternative, proven Document Databases only offered client/server support. 3) No network. Having SQLite server-side next to the application is extremely fast. 4) Replicating Firestore's API makes it easy to use. 5) Listeners and real-time…

Hey HN! I’ve written a bunch of WebSocket servers over the years to do simple things like state synchronization, WebRTC signaling, and notifying a client when a backend job was run. I realized that if I had a simple way to create a private, temporary, mini-redis that the client could talk to directly, it would save a lot of time. So we created DriftDB. In addition to the open source server that you can run yourself, we also provide https://jamsocket.live where you can use an instance we host on Cloudflare’s edge (~13ms round trip latency from my home in NY). You may have seen my…

Hello HN! I'm building mvsqlite, a distributed variant of SQLite with MVCC transactions, that runs on FoundationDB. It is a drop-in replacement that just needs an `LD_PRELOAD` for existing applications using SQLite. I made this because Blueboat (https://github.com/losfair/blueboat) needs a native SQL interface to persistent data. Apparently, just providing a transactional key-value store isn’t enough - it is more easy and efficient to build complex business logic on an SQL database, and it seems necessary to bring a self-hostable distributed SQL DB onto the platform.…

Hi everyone! I'm trying to create a version control system that solves some of the problems that Git and other version control software has when working in a team. Let me know if you have any feedback!

Hey HN, I want to share with you something I and my four colleagues have been working on for the last several years. It’s a whiteboarding and notes tool called Muse[1]. We just released a 2.0 version which includes local-first sync. A little backstory: I’m one of the authors of the 2019 essay Local-first software[2]. (Past HN discussions[3][4].) The thesis is to reclaim some of the ownership over our data that we’ve lost in the transition from filesystems to cloud/SaaS. So I’m excited to bring CRDT technology “out of the lab” and into a commercial product as a chance to prove the value…

Thank you for your comments, just some context: - The app is available for iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Apple Vision Pro, and the Web. - The Web version is implemented as a Progressive Web Application that is very responsive, local first, offline first, can be installed, and is entirely free to use. - Native (hybrid) versions do not require subscription fees and have small one-time payment. - You can store your notes in Git using any Git provider such as GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket. However, it has the best built-in integration with GitHub. Self-hosted scenarios like Gitea are also…

I wanted to make my own evaluation of what kind of performance I could expect from SQLite on a server and investigate the experimental `BEGIN CONCURRENT` branch vs the inbuilt `DEFERRED` and `IMMEDIATE` behaviors. Explanatory blog post: https://reorchestrate.com/posts/sqlite-transactions/
