Hello everyone, Today we released iceoryx2 v0.4! iceoryx2 is a service-based inter-process communication (IPC) library designed to make communication between processes as fast as possible - like Unix domain sockets or message queues, but orders of magnitude faster and easier to use. It also comes with advanced features such as circular buffers, history, event notifications, publish-subscribe messaging, and a decentralized architecture with no need for a broker. For example, if you're working in robotics and need to process frames from a camera across multiple processes, iceoryx2 makes it…

Hi, I am Krishna Thota. I am building an open source integration and data platform(https://cptn.io). The product is MIT licensed and the repo is at https://github.com/cptn-io/el-cptn. I have started on my startup journey an year ago and launched a monitoring platform called DevRaven. Unfortunately the product did not takeoff as expected. That story is for another day. But during the course of building the product, I have built several integrations leveraging MQs and Cloud Functions. While building and deploying Cloud Functions for happy paths is easy, I had to…

I’ve been a long-time Snowplow user and unofficial evangelizer. I have deep respect for its founders, Alex and Yali, who I met a few times. What made me fall in love with Snowplow was that it was unopinionated, gave access to raw event data, and was truly open source. Back in 2013, that changed everything for me. I couldn’t look at GA the same way again. Over the years, analytics moved into SQL warehouses driven by cheaper CPU/storage, dbt, reproducibility, and transparency. I saw the need for a democratized Snowplow pipeline and launched a hosted version in 2019. In January 2024,…

Hi HN, we build an open-source operating system extension for orchestrating robot swarms fully decentralized. This first beta version allows you to create fully decentralized robot swarms. The system will set up a wireless mesh network and run a p2p networking stack on top of it, such that nodes can interact with each other through various abstractions using our SDKs (Rust, Python, TypeScript) or a CLI. We hope this is a step toward better inter-robot communication (and a fun project if you have a few Raspberry Pis lying around). Our mesh network is created by B.A.T.M.A.N.-adv and we’ve…

Last week Cloudflare released Cap'n Web [1], a schema-free capability-based RPC protocol. I built capn-rs this week - a Rust implementation with full wire protocol compatibility. Links: GitHub: https://github.com/currentspace/capn-rs Crates: https://crates.io/crates/capnweb-server API docs: https://docs.rs/capnweb-server What's working: Wire compatibility verified via integration tests against TypeScript reference Multi-transport: HTTP batch, WebSocket, WebTransport (HTTP/3) Complete IL (intermediate language) expression evaluator…

Hi HN, I’m sharing the alpha release of S2C, a state machine replication system built atop S3. The goal is to enable a distributed application to maintain consistent state without needing a quorum of nodes for availability or consistency. The idea came from a side project that was using S3 and where I needed strongly consistent distributed state but wanted to avoid adding a separate consensus dependency. I initially tried to use S3 directly for coordination, but it became messy. Eventually, I realized I need a replicated state machine with a deterministic log, and then it ended up as a…

Dear HN, As a long-standing member of this community (2007!), I'm really pleased to announce the launch of the Saito project here. http://saito.tech Since you probably haven't heard of us, Saito is a terabyte-level blockchain designed to support email, social networks, payment channels, distributed forums, and other big-data applications directly on-chain. We achieve scale for this by solving the fundamental economic problems with the proof-of-work and proof-of-stake consensus mechanisms. If you look into the network design, we think we'll blow your mind! Anyway, we've been reading…
