24 alternatives to Stackdome – An open source self-hostable Railway alternative on K8s
Hello Hacker News, this is Ashish. We started building Stackdome in 2024 as a hobby project. The idea was to package the tooling in the CNCF/cloud-native ecosystem into an opinionated platform, so that developers can get a well engineered platform without learning Kubernetes YAMLology or a dozen other projects from the CNCF landscape. Railway and Render did this well for their hosted products. I wanted to bring that level of polish and DX to something you can self-host. Stackdome uses Kubernetes underneath, but it's completely transparent to users. (I have some ideas for an expert mode…
Stackdome is an open-source application delivery platform that abstracts Kubernetes complexity for developers. It packages cloud-native tools into a simplified interface for deploying applications via CLI, Canvas, or… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

Over the past week I built a project to let people self-host an entire maps stack so they don't have to send data to the big G. Right now it includes a base map, geocoder and directions server. Currently only bicycle directions are supported, and I'm only hosting tiles for Seattle because I'm unemployed and can't afford to host data for the whole planet. Check it out! https://maps.ellenhp.me/ https://github.com/ellenhp/headway Ultimately I'd like to really focus on transit routing (not implemented) but I'll probably throw a driving mode in there too.

Hi HN, After 9 years of running my own OpenStreetMap tile server infra for MapHub (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11389989), I've open-sourced it and launched OpenFreeMap. You can either self-host or use our public instance. Everything is open-source, including the full production setup — there’s no 'open-core' model here. Check out the repo (https://github.com/hyperknot/openfreemap). The map data comes from OpenStreetMap. I also provide weekly full planet downloads both in Btrfs and MBTiles formats. I aim to cover the running costs of the public…

Railway▲405Hacked together a service in Go https://github.com/xlab/cdn-s3-go that routes content request to any arbitrary S3-compatible bucket. Some infra providers are offering free egress, but buckets are only private (hello Railway), and not geo-distributed. An L4 balancer will cost a fortune (hello Cloudflare). cdn-s3-go solves this by looking up objects, generating a pre-signed URLs and redirecting the clients directly. Free egress, cheap public geo-distributed CDN!

StackScope▲120Hey all, I built StackScope, a crawler/catalogue that looks at new product launches and shows what they were built with. It watches launches from Product Hunt, Show HN, and PeerPush, then crawls the public site behind each one. The goal is to show what people actually launched with: hosting, frameworks, analytics, DNS, security headers, legal pages, AI-builder signals, and other public clues. I started building it because most stack-detection sites look at the web as a whole. I was more interested in the current indie launch scene: what people are choosing right now, at the point they…

Hi all, This project release is a long time coming. It was a big uphill battle, and by far my largest endeavor so far. I built it for Sandstorm because I believe in Sandstorm's model, and I wanted to show that there's still life and potential in it. If you're inspired, joining our OpenCollective would be really helpful: https://opencollective.com/sandstormcommunity (keeping in mind that Sandstorm has now moved from its original leadership to a community project https://sandstorm.org/news/2023-11-03-from-io-to-org). Hi HN! We’re Yann, Edouard, and Bastien from Koyeb (https://www.koyeb.com/). We’re building a platform to let you deploy full-stack apps on high-performance hardware around the world, with zero configuration. We provide a “global serverless feeling”, without the hassle of re-writing all your apps or managing k8s complexity [1]. We built Scaleway, a cloud service provider where we designed ARM servers and provided them as cloud servers. During our time there, we saw customers struggle with the same issues while trying to deploy full-stack applications and APIs resiliently. As…

A large part of our (Real Kinetic's) business is helping organizations implement platform engineering, but we've found the existing tooling to be lacking. For IaC, Terraform state becomes a pain because TF treats infrastructure as "one-shot" commands. The Kubernetes controller model provides a nicer approach to managing infrastructure, but the tooling here is also lacking. For configuration management, Helm just doesn't really scale with complexity, nor does Kustomize. For resource orchestration, Crossplane is a step in the right direction but still has challenges and limitations. As a…

Hey HN! Happy to finally launch Stack. We made it because we like to put apps into production quickly, and authentication & user management was taking up way too much time. We have components like and that automatically adapt to whatever theme & design system you're using. Check the blog post to see the example with Radix UI and Joy UI. Also, there's an admin dashboard for monitoring and editing accounts. Stack is 100% AGPL/MIT-licensed, so you can self-host it. Cheers!

Introducing Stack-chan, an open-source hardware robot designed with Fusion360 and Kicad that is easy to assemble and customize. With just 6 screws, you can easily put together the robot and add your own features using JavaScript with the Moddable SDK. Stack-chan is completely open-source and the design files, firmware and software are all available on GitHub repository (https://github.com/meganetaaan/stack-chan) . Give it a try and customize it to your needs. We'd love to see what you create and hear your feedback on this open-source project.

GitHub: https://github.com/rudderlabs/rudder-server/ === Firstly, a big thanks to the HN community for showing us love and support in our previous HN post (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21081756). At that point, we had just open-sourced the repo and were not fully prepared for a Show HN. We wanted to share updates since then and also do our official Show HN. Updates since Sept 2019 1. Changed the name from Rudder to RudderStack :) 2. API compatibility with Segment 3. Open-source control plane so no dependency on the hosted control plane for…

Hey HN! We wanted to share with you nxs-universal-chart - our open-sourced universal Helm chart. You can use it to deploy any of your applications into Kubernetes/OpenShift and other orchestrators compatible with native Kubernetes API. Our team regularly faced the need to create almost identical charts, so when we had 14 identical microservices in one project, we came up with a chart format that essentially became a prototype of nxs-universal-chart. It turned out to be more relevant than we even thought! When we needed to prepare CI/CD for 60 almost identical projects for a…

Hey HN, we're launching Outpost, an open-source, self-hostable component designed to handle outbound event delivery for SaaS/API platforms. If you're building a platform, you eventually need to send events to your users (think payment success, resource updates, workflow changes). Implementing this reliably—handling retries, monitoring, scaling, providing a decent dev experience for consumers, and managing tenants—becomes a significant, recurring engineering task that distracts from core product development. We built Outpost to offload that complexity. Outpost delivers events via…

Atlas is an open-source deployment pipeline platform built for cloud-native applications. Atlas allows users to: - Create continuous pipelines across all their environments and clusters - Add custom tasks/tests plugins (Python scripts, K8S manifests, Argo Workflows, environment setup, etc.) - Automatically rollback applications in case of failure or degradation (Atlas watches the application past the scope of a pipeline run to ensure and enforce stability) - Use all existing Argo features Would love to hear all of your feedback and thoughts on this!
