Hey HN! I built a local Python prototyping tool that is finally the Python development environment I've always wanted. It has a Jupyter notebook for data crunching, a database of your choice (Python or MongoDB), and a Streamlit app for building a frontend visualization. You can edit the Streamlit backend via an embedded VSCode editor, or locally on your own IDE. The best part for me is that the database connectors within Jupyter and Streamlit are configured out-of-the-box, so you don't need to spend time thinking about how to tie all that together - you can just pick the database you want to…

Dear HN, I am Riwaj, the cofounder of dstack.ai (https://github.com/dstackai). A few months ago, we built an online service that allows users to publish data visualizations from Python or R. The idea was to build a tool that did not require additional programming or front-end development for publishing data visualizations. Such a code can be invoked from either Jupyter notebook, RMarkdown, Python, or R scripts. Once the data is pushed, it can be accessed via a browser. Open-sourcing dstack: During our customer discovery phase, we realized that dstack.ai should integrate a lot…

Hey HN! I’ve written a bunch of WebSocket servers over the years to do simple things like state synchronization, WebRTC signaling, and notifying a client when a backend job was run. I realized that if I had a simple way to create a private, temporary, mini-redis that the client could talk to directly, it would save a lot of time. So we created DriftDB. In addition to the open source server that you can run yourself, we also provide https://jamsocket.live where you can use an instance we host on Cloudflare’s edge (~13ms round trip latency from my home in NY). You may have seen my…

Hey there! This is Dan and Ustin (@uzarubin), and we want to share something cool we've been working on for the past year - an open-source `tail -f` for your data, with a UI. We call it "Streamdal" which is a word salad for streaming systems (because we love them) and DAL or data access layer (because we’re nerds). Here's the repo: https://github.com/streamdal/streamdal Here's the site: https://streamdal.com And here's a live demo: https://demo.streamdal.com (github repo has an explanation of the demo) — — — THE PROBLEM We built this because the…

Hello HN! We’re Leo and Mandeep, founders of Datapane (https://datapane.com). We're building a way to create reports, dashboards, and web apps from your existing data using Python. Think of it as a combination of React and htmx, specifically designed for the Python data stack. Our GitHub is https://github.com/datapane/datapane and you can try building a report or app in ~2 minutes on Codespaces: https://try.datapane.com We started building Datapane at our previous start-up, where we struggled to deliver ML model results to clients. Much to our…

I love Streamlit but have run into many situation where taking it from PoC to MVP state is insurmountable. With all the recent HN hype around htmx and sematic html / classless css I decided to build a Streamlit alternative using these on top of FastAPI. This has a couple advantages: 1) easier to extend when you move past PoC since the FastAPI app is exposed (allowing adding more routes) and hstream acts more like a typical web stack 2) with htmx and html (plus MVP.css) doing the heavy lifting the package is alot less complex and easier to reason about - and hopefully more performant…

streamlit-shadcn-ui is a python lib that allows you to use shadcn components in streamlit. Benefits: 1. It extends the components options for building streamlit app 2. A morden and clean designed components for streamlit developer 3. streamlit-shadcn-ui provide a component "element", which allows you to write react-like component in python. You can nest and combine all the components with existing code. Hi, I’m Mikkel and I’m building Async, an open-sourced developer tool that combines AI coding with task management and code review. What Async does: - Automatically researches coding tasks, asks clarifying questions, then executes code changes in the cloud - Breaks work into reviewable subtasks with stack diffs for easier code review - Handles the full workflow from issue to merged PR without leaving the app Demo here: https://youtu.be/98k42b8GF4s?si=Azf3FIWAbpsXxk3_ I’ve been working as a developer for over a decade now. I’ve tried all sorts of AI tools out there including…
