I built a full backend-as-a-service platform — solo, in TypeScript — to fix what I hated about Supabase and Appwrite. The Problem - Supabase: Too rigid. One schema model. No flexibility. - Appwrite: Too loose. No RLS. Security is manual. The Solution: 3 Schema Types | Type | Use Case | Security | |------------|-----------------------------------|----------| | `Document` | Rapid prototyping (Appwrite-style) | Manual | | `Managed` | Secure apps (auto RLS + permissions) | *Secure by default* | | `Unmanaged`| Full SQL power (raw Postgres) | None | ### Killer Features - *APIs better than…

Coding agents spend a lot of time in the shell. When exploring a codebase, they usually reach for the same handful of tools: grep, find, ls, cat. We built a public SSH server that hosts Supabase docs as markdown files so that agents can explore them the same way they explore code: ssh supabase.sh grep -rl 'RLS' docs ssh supabase.sh cat docs/guides/database/postgres/row-level-security.md | head -10 Under the hood commands run inside Vercel's just-bash [1] library - an emulated bash shell sandboxed within the JS runtime. It uses a VFS where the docs are mounted as markdown…

Utilizing Postgres' RLS feature to isolate user data instead of easy-to-forget where-clauses, is such an underrated use case, I really wonder why not more people use it. If you prefer code over the blog post, I've put the full application example on GitHub. Would love to hear your thoughts. https://github.com/simplyblock/example-rls-invoicing

hi HN, I built supapool.io, an ephemeral full copy of supabase's services that you can spin up in ~400 ms (Auth, postgres, storage, realtime). so if you run multiple coding agents in parallel in different worktrees, they can now have their own copy of supabase without making changes that conflict with eachother. > why not use supabase docker locally? when I run 3-4 instances locally, my macbook gets hot and sometimes freezes. > why not use supabase branches? branches take minutes to setup, and are designed for persistence. this is expensive, and for a dev environment, it is too slow. > why…

Hi HN, pgstream is an open source CLI tool and Go library for Postgres logical replication events. We have some bigger plans with it, but as of now its main "differentiator" is that it includes not only data changes but also DDL changes in the same ordered and consistent stream. We have developed this because in the Xata platform we handle automatic replication from Postgres to Elasticsearch/OpenSearch. Initially schema changes were problematic because they required us intercepting them at the API layer and then apply them to the search engine. But if the replication is slightly delayed…
