Hi HN! We’re building an open-source pricing & packaging engine for SaaS with a built-in billing system. (https://github.com/uselotus/lotus). We strongly believe pricing is the largest untapped growth lever for SaaS, primarily because pricing affects so many critical systems that don’t talk to each other (billing, payments, feature limits, metering, and CRM). We’re building this infrastructure to fix this and enable quick experimentation. Lotus acts as a central repository for all of your pricing plans and utilizes your payment gateway, to manage usage-based, per-seat,…

Are you spending hundreds of dollars a month on AI coding costs? I built European Swallow AI, an API that uses reasoning models (Claude, Deepseek) for thinking and cheaper specialized coding models (Qwen, Grok) to write code, so you can save token costs while still getting high quality code. With an OpenAI formatted endpoint you can try European Swallow in Cursor, Typing Mind, Xibe AI and your own custom apps. During testing, European Swallow scored 80.5% on Big Code Bench and over 90% on the HumanEval+. It averaged $2.60 per million tokens compared with the $15 per million output tokens of…

Some technical context on what we ran into building this. MCP tools don't really work for financial data at scale. One tool call for five years of daily prices dumps tens of thousands of tokens into the context window. And data vendors pack dozens of tools into a single MCP server, schemas alone can eat 50k+ tokens before the agent does anything useful. So we auto-generate typed Python modules from the MCP schemas at workspace init and upload them into the sandbox. The agent just imports them like a normal library. Only a one-line summary per server stays in the prompt. We have around 80…

    Credyt▲100

Hey HN! I'm the founder of Credyt (https://credyt.ai). If you're running an AI product that burns $0.50+ per interaction, you need to bill customers as usage happens, not at the end of the month. Otherwise you're a bank for your customers, and you'll run out of money before they do. Why invoice-based billing doesn't work for AI: Most usage-based billing tools (Stripe Billing, Orb, etc.) were built for SaaS. They meter usage all month, then send an invoice. That works fine when your COGS is 5%. It's a disaster when you're paying your AI vendor upfront for every request and your…

    Parsewise▲169

Hi HN! We're X25 alumni and built Parsewise to analyze large document sets with AI agents. Instead of prompting a single PDF, our agents extract, cross-reference, and reason across thousands of documents in one run. We originally built this for insurance and financial diligence workflows where teams review huge document packs. Curious what the HN community thinks! Hey HN! We discovered that no one innovates on pricing because every billing software is inflexible. Excited to share our progress with Lotus entering beta (full MIT license, https://github.com/uselotus/lotus). New features: * backtest and run analysis comparing multiple plans * version pricing plans like you version code * Meter and aggregate usage flexibly with custom SQL * billing for usage-based pricing, hybrid, bespoke contracts * generate invoice pdfs or integrate with Stripe, Braintree, Netsuite, Salesforce * webhooks to send alerts when usage thresholds are high…

I started leaning in on AI heavily this year, as I wanted to get more done autonomously, but then my token usage climbed dramatically to the point where my weekly quota would run out before the end of the week, sometimes a couple of days into the week. I realised I had to do something about it else I'd have to double my spend. So I decided to start tracking my cost per task type. This revealed that a lot of my spend went to searches/scans or simple things like scouting tasks. I then decided to turn this into a simple CLI tool that can be used to read your OpenAI-style logs locally, and…

Hello HN Community, As an ex-founder of a developers-for-hire agency, I was fortunate to build for many different software organizations around the world, and partner with the most talented product teams. One of the things I learned by coding was how painful it is to build & maintain pricing in SaaS. The pricing structure and logic always end up being coupled with the core application code and the billing platform. The product catalog is typically managed in spreadsheets, by the product & monetization teams, while all the possible package types, including the legacy ones, are typically…
