(spoiler: its XSLT) I've been working on a little demo for how to avoid copy-pasting header/footer boilerplate on a simple static webpage. My goal is to approximate the experience of Jekyll/Hugo but eliminate the need for a build step before publishing. This demo shows how to get basic templating features with XSL so you could write a blog post which looks like My Article some content hello hello Some properties which set this approach apart from other methods: - no build step (no need to setup Jekyll on the client or configure Github/Gitlab actions) - works on any webserver…

Hey HN, I recently found myself needing a quick way to preview HTML and SVG code without having to copy it into an IDE, save it, and then open it in a browser. ChatGPT's new canvas feature is great for generating code, but it doesn't provide a way to preview HTML directly. To solve this, I made a small bookmarklet that allows you to instantly preview HTML from your clipboard in a new tab. Just copy your HTML, click the bookmarklet, and it will render immediately. It's a simple tool, but it’s saved me a lot of repetitive steps, and I figured it might help others too. The bookmarklet code and…

http://instantclick.io/ It seems the internet architecture won't bring us instant websites anytime soon. So here is a hack. I released this JS library last month (today is version 2.0 release, fixing v1.0's rough edges), it makes use of HTML5's pushState and preloading to make a website instant. It works like this: before clicking on a link, you'll hover over it. And there's a delay of 200-300 ms between these two events. InstantClick uses this delay to preload a page, when you click on a link it will display instantly in most case. (You can test on the website.) That's…

Yesterday I registered the domain temp.now. Today, I deployed a temporary email tool using open-source code, which is convenient for registering products and services. As long as you save the login credentials, you can keep the generated addresses indefinitely. Enjoy! EN URL: https://temp.now/en/

I love Streamlit but have run into many situation where taking it from PoC to MVP state is insurmountable. With all the recent HN hype around htmx and sematic html / classless css I decided to build a Streamlit alternative using these on top of FastAPI. This has a couple advantages: 1) easier to extend when you move past PoC since the FastAPI app is exposed (allowing adding more routes) and hstream acts more like a typical web stack 2) with htmx and html (plus MVP.css) doing the heavy lifting the package is alot less complex and easier to reason about - and hopefully more performant…

Hi everyone, this is Sarthak Mangla, a high school student from New Delhi, India. Over the past two months, I have been working on Tempus, a Chrome extension that allows you to efficiently manage and view YouTube comments with timestamps. It just went live on Chrome Web Store — install it here: https://bit.ly/3iZejEF Features: 1. View concentration of comments using opacity of displayed markers. 2. View comments containing a particular timestamp. 3. While playing the video, view comments with timestamps like a live chat replay. 4. Customize the primary colour, block size of…

Hey all! I extracted out the stack of libraries I found myself using over and over for my projects in case anyone else would find them useful. This template uses go, templ, HTMX, echo, and mage and has worked pretty well for several projects. It isn't really a framework, more a jumping off point with all the boilerplate done for a server side rendered go app. It is still a work in progress and I would love feedback on it!
