24 alternatives to Thockfactory – An Online Configurator for Custom Keycaps Enthusiasts
I'm a software engineer and keyboard enthusiast who wanted custom keycap sets but couldn't find anything I liked. That led me to build Thockfactory, an online keycap configurator that lets anyone design and order their own custom sets. The first version launched back in April 2024, but after feedback and my own experience using it, I realized the shop and configurator needed a complete overhaul. I took down the site completely and have rebuilt almost everything since then, focusing on a better UX and a smoother ordering process. Would appreciate any feedback, bug reports, or ideas. You can…

Hi Hacker News, This is definitely out of my comfort zone. I just wanted to show you guys because I'm super proud of it. It's a 100% faithful recreation based off of the schematics, patents, and ROMs that were found online. So please watch the video and tell me what you think https://youtu.be/auOlZXI1VxA The reason why I think this is relevant is because I've been a programmer for 25 years and AI scares the shit out of me. I'm not a programmer anymore. I'm something else now. I don't know what it is but it's multi-disciplinary, and it doesn't involve writing code myself--for…

Hey HN, This is a bit of a weekend project that I'm currently trying out. When I'm changing the layout of my moonlander, I wish there was a way to change the labels of the keys as well. So I thought about making some label stickers that sit over the key, and after some experimentation I'm pretty happy with the results, however I need a few other "keyboard buddies" to make it economical. So I'm introducing https://kapd.au as a way for people to download the same template I used, and send it to me to get it printed out. I run in batches of 8 and while atm the prices are a little…

I recently quit my job at a decent TTS company I was working for as a software developer advocate to pursue what I have always enjoyed doing, which is creating software that is helpful. Before and after quitting my job, I have always found it expensive and time-consuming to hire a designer that can come up with a decent logo for my software, and as a software engineer, I really enjoy coding, not designing. One day, I made a pretty bold move to design a logo, and it took me a whole day to come up with a logo that looks nice. This is the reason I built Owl AI, a logo generator that generates…

Hey HN! I’m Nikola, and I’m excited to share something I’ve been building: Thoth, a platform designed to help developers improve their typing speed and accuracy with real code snippets. Including daily challenges, ranked mode, global leaderboards and lots of customizability. Whether you're a beginner learning your first language or an experienced coder aiming to stay sharp, Thoth is here to help. If you’re like me, you spend hours coding every day, and typing quickly and accurately makes a huge difference. But the existing typing tools didn’t feel like they were tailored for developers, so I…

Hey guys! I built a custom keyboard for iOS8 that imitates the looks and behavior of the native QWERTY keyboard. The goal from the start was to be entirely programmatic: all the art and layout are generated in code, so it's much easier to extend than something built using XIBs and PNGs. It's rough around the edges (due to deadlines), the code is messy, and I don't intend to devote too much of my side project time to maintaining it as a framework, but I figured it might make a good starting point for anyone doing something similar. The project page:…

Hey HN, After GPT-3 created waves in the tech industry, a lot of AI tools were emerging and with that, some AI website builders But the results seemed way too generic to us. It felt like the developers were rushing to catch the wave instead of building a proper tool We took our time, did months of RnD and finally came up with something better than what others in the market are doing. It’s got better design output. While it’s still in beta, I wanted to show HN what we did. Will appreciate the feedback when you guys try it out. Here is the link to signup for the beta:…
