24 alternatives to TrackObject – Drag-and-drop computer vision object tracking
Hey HN! We're the creators of Sieve API (https://www.sievedata.com) and we recently built this fun site that folks can play around with. Frontend is built with NextJS + Tailwind UI and backend is our API. It uses ffmpeg in the browser to transcode an uploaded video, chop it to 5 seconds, and then send it to our API endpoint which detects and tracks objects in the video. You can then "select" any object and track it over the video. We thought it'd be a fun thing for the community to play around with while also showing the power of video object tracking!
TrackObject is a web-based tool for detecting and tracking objects in video. Users upload a video, which is processed in the browser and sent to the Sieve API backend for analysis. The interface lets users select any… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Hello! I've created a small library for tracking, along with a tutorial. I plan to continue developing it. Tracking is an important topic, closely related to object detection. However, I've noticed that it doesn't receive as much attention compared to machine learning approaches. Or, the focus is on filters like the Kalman filter. This tutorial begins with single object tracking and progressively complicates the tasks, introducing various models and a hypothesis tree to solve them.

This runs YOLOv8 + bytetrack with Tinygrad detections (depending on user config) are saved and can be sent to the companion iOS app along with a notification, all video processing is done locally, all footage is encrypted before leaving your computer, and the sending notifications + videos part is optional. This uses tinygrad, so it runs well on my apple silicon macs and should be able to run on a lot of hardware (or will be able to when I remove other deps).

Hey HN. We’re Jay and Vadim from Highlight.io (https://highlight.io). We’re building an open source [1] monitoring platform for web applications. Today we’re excited to be sharing a performance tool we’ve been working on, which helps you inspect the latency of code execution from the client to the server. As engineers at past startups, we often had to debug slow queries, poor load times, inconsistent errors, etc... While tools like Jaegar [2] helped us inspect server-side performance, we had no way to tie user events to the traces we were inspecting. In other words, although we had…
