Products that do what Transcribe YouTube videos and Apple podcasts to Readable Markdown does
There have been many existing projects that transcribe YouTube videos with Whisper and its variants, but most of them aimed to generate subtitles, while I had not found one that priortises readability. Whisper does not generate line break in its transcription, so transcribing a 20 mins long video without any post processing would give you a huge piece of text, without any line break or topic segmentation. This project aims to transcribe videos with that post processing. Any feedback here, or on Github issues, would be very appreciated.

I know there are various tools that are supposed to make this easy, but I couldn't find anything that did everything I wanted, so I made this today for fun. The web-based offerings all take forever and seem flaky, and you need to process one video at a time, with no control over the transcription settings. I originally added this to my site to speed up my video editing process. Last year I started a youtube channel and for some of my longer videos it's annoying to rely on youtube or capcut to transcribe when Whisper is open source. Capcut also recently updated their T&Cs to say they own your content if you use their app, so I cancelled my subscription. Another use-case I have is recording my claude prompts as audio, transcribing them, and then pasting them into my terminal. Hey HN, I've been working on this side project for the past month. It generates a step-by-step tutorial guide for YouTube videos that you can follow along without watching long videos. Hey HN, ExpoReader is a viewer for YouTube videos that shows the transcript of the video, and generates a shareable URL for a completely readable version of a video. I built it because I wanted helpful tutorials without having to watch an entire video. In a later version, I was thinking it could be cool to show other screenshots from the video throughout the transcript, but there’s really no easy way to do that outside of downloading the video and taking clips from there.
