24 alternatives to Userscript to get rid of the YouTube Shorts player
I'm pretty frustrated by the shorts player for YouTube so I made this userscript which simply redirects to the default player that has a scrub-bar, does not loop automatically and does not overlay the video with UI. This at least fixes my biggest frustration with this new video format.
This userscript redirects YouTube Shorts videos to YouTube's standard player instead. It's designed for viewers who prefer the traditional player interface, which includes a scrub bar for seeking, prevents automatic… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. I am neurodivergent and noticed the Youtube Shorts format was hacking my brain to engage longer than I wanted. I wrote this quick extension to gain my time back. If you have suggestions for improvement, I'm all ears. Thank you :)

YouTube started blocking me because I use an adblocker. So I made this simple Firefox Add-On (haven't made it cross-browser yet, contributions welcome!) to open videos in alternative front-ends (piped.video by default). Default keybinding: Alt+J to reopen current page in the configured frontend. Shift+Click to open any video in a new tab in the configured frontend. You can change the default frontend to something else if you like.

Hey HN, I've been working on this side project for the past month. It generates a step-by-step tutorial guide for YouTube videos that you can follow along without watching long videos. Best suited for tutorial videos but can work for other videos aswell. No BS. Just straight to the point. The guides are generated from pure transcript so you don't have to worry about it being AI. It's my first project as a total beginner. Something I had to do inorder to get out of tutorial hell. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or if you face any problems or bugs. I would try to fix them to the…

Hi HN! I built this little extension to prevent, in my opinion, the most offensive anti-pattern used by tech companies. That is removing the seek bar in short-form videos. The "seek bar" is the bar at the bottom of a video that progresses as you play the video, and that you can click on or drag to skip around. Why companies ever thought it was a good idea to get rid of this I don't know, but I find it infuriating, so I decided to add it back for myself and thought others might like it too. ReelControl adds a progress bar and seeking capabilities to videos on Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and…

Youtube Shorts are pure evil. It just distract me whenever I open Youtube, I'll always waste my time in it and forget why I opened it. So I made a extension for myself and it works well, Still there is no improvement in my productivity but I'm not distracted. I made it for myself and personally using it, if you like you can use it too. I made it open-source, if you like it give a star -Vick

Hi HN, I recently released a new browser extension for YouTube, which in addition to the table stakes of hiding the existence of Shorts, hiding promoted content, automatically skipping ads, hiding useless/unused UI elements, hiding unwanted channels YouTube keeps recommending to you, letting you hide algorithmic suggestions etc. etc., makes other changes I've always wanted as a user, in the same vein as one of my other extensions, Control Panel for Twitter. The most significant of those is attempting to make your Subscriptions page more like an Inbox, by hiding videos you've already…

Hi HN! I built SkipCut it’s like an ad-free, distraction-free YouTube with useful extras: background play, SponsorBlock, dark mode, playlist support, local history, download/share buttons… and it works on any device. No install. No login. Here’s the best part: It works just by replacing "youtube" with "skipcut" in the video link. You skip all the boring stuff — ads, sponsors, intros, silence, filler and just watch what matters. Why it’s different: No comments. No suggested videos. No clickbait. I made this for my kid, I create a playlist and just send a SkipCut link like:…
