The project is called QueryStorm. It uses Roslyn to offer C# (and VB.NET) support in Excel, as an alternative to VBA. I've posted about it before, but a lot has changed since then so figured I'd share an update. The current version includes a host of new features, namely a C# debugger, support for NuGet packages, and the ability to publish Excel extensions to an "AppStore" (which is essentially a NuGet repository). The AppStore can be used by anyone with the (free) runtime component. Another great addition is the community license, which is a free license for individuals and small companies…

I have spent large parts of the last 10+ years building an SQL Editor. The tool is targeted at data analysts, a lot of effort has gone into charting, visualizing and excel export. If this sounds useful to you, it's Free, please give it a try and let me know any feedback.

I have been working on SQL Explorer, an open source, Django-based reporting and query tool for (gulp!) almost ten years. It's a tool that fits just right for me and many others, and I love and use almost every day. Write SQL, share results, do some analysis, get insight. No surprises. A live demo instance is here (no login or anything required): https://demo.sqlexplorer.io/ And here's a fairly unprofessional, but very enthusiastic, video tour: https://sql-explorer.s3.amazonaws.com/Sql+Explorer+5.mp4 The UI is constrained enough that there's very little to learn,…

Hi HN, We're Luke and Phillip, and we're building Spice.ai OSS - a lightweight, portable runtime, built in Rust and powered by Apache DataFusion to locally materialize, accelerate, and query data tables sourced from any database, data warehouse or data lake. Phillip and I first introduced Spice on Show HN in September 2021. Since then, we’ve been schooled and humbled in every way building 100TB+ data and ML systems for the https://spice.ai cloud platform. Along with our customers, we struggled with getting fast, low-latency, high-concurrency SQL query within a budget, accessing and…

If you have a cloud-hosted database, read on: Visual DB was designed for you. Visual DB is the fastest way to create data entry forms for your database: Starting with an Excel spreadsheet, you can import your data into the database and create a great-looking form in under 10 minutes. Watch this video: https://youtu.be/6rVD5rmrjN8 Visual DB is a comprehensive SaaS frontend for your database. In addition to data entry forms, Visual DB also has a spreadsheet-like interface for inserting and updating data in your database. You can also build interactive reports using Visual DB.…

Hi folks, My friend Sami and I recently built Vizly, a Mac application that allows anyone to query their databases using plain English. Vizly is built on Llama 2, llama.cpp, and runs fully on-prem (edit: meaning everything is local and your data never leaves your own computer). We are running two Llama models, one for natural language to SQL translation, and another that uses the results from the SQL to render visualizations. That means there are no external APIs and all the AI models are running locally on your MacBook. We tried to make Vizly very easy to share as well. Every Vizly instance…

Simon(sfarshid) and I spend a lot of time on GitHub. As data nerds we put together a quick tool to explore your repository’s data. How it works: - Data Loading: We use dlt to pull data (issues, PRs, commits, stars) from GitHub - Semantic Layer: Relta wraps the underlying dataset into a semantic layer so the LLM doesn’t hallucinate. - Text-to-SQL: A text-to-SQL agent transforms your plain-English question into a query using the semantic layer - Generative Charts: assistant-ui dynamically generates a chart based on the SQL query - Refinements: If the semantic layer can’t handle your question,…

I built this web-based developer utility few years ago when I couldn't find any opensource GUI-based query builder for mysql (similar to what MS Access had). This app can be run locally. The online demo uses static hardcoded values. Screencast's link is included in the README file.

Last year, I wanted to learn a bit about how easy it would be to deploy a python app via web assembly to the browser and decided to make a wrapper around the amazing sqlglot by Toby Mao and the rest of the team. The tool lets you paste in Sql queries and translate them between the available sql dialects in sqlglot. It also gives you parse diagnostics and the ability to easily share queries via storing all the state in the url. The stack that was used is typescript for the UI and pyodide to integrate with Sqlglot, which does the heavy lifting. It's more of a toy app but I've found some use…

I built CSV GB+ by Data.olllo, a local data tool that lets you open, clean, and export gigabyte-sized CSVs (even billions of rows) without writing code. Most spreadsheet apps choke on big files. Coding in pandas or Polars works—but not everyone wants to write scripts just to filter or merge CSVs. CSV GB+ gives you a fast, point-and-click interface built on dual backends (memory-optimized or disk-backed) so you can process huge datasets offline. Key Features: Handles massive CSVs with ease — merge, split, dedup, filter, batch export Smart engine switch: disk-based "V Core" or RAM-based "P…

LinkedQL is a new SQL client that supports live queries over any Postgres, MySQL, and MariaDB database. You get result sets that self-update differentially as rows change in your database – via inserts, updates, deletes. Works with no extra tooling/ORM layer or GraphQL servers. You opt into live mode simply with a flag: client.query('SELECT ...', { live: true }). More at: https://linked-ql.netlify.app/capabilities/live-queries LinkedQL is written in JavaScript and runs in both client and server environments. GitHub + docs:…

Try it: https://local.dataspren.com (no account needed, runs locally) More information: https://github.com/dataspren-analytics/data-studio I love working with data (Postgres, SQL, DuckDB, DBT, Iceberg, ...). I always wanted a data exploration tool that runs in my browser and just works. Without any infra or privacy concerns (DuckDB UI came quite close).
