As an enthusiast of Indian classical music, I needed to write music notations in the traditional typeset format. When I didn't find any existing editors, I developed a Swara Notebook, a mobile focused web app to write North Indian Classical (Hindustani) music notations. The notes (called Sargam, similar to Solfege) can be written in English, Devnagri and Bangla scripts. Hey HN, I built MBCompass, a lightweight, privacy-friendly compass app for Android. It works fully offline, doesn’t ask for unnecessary permissions (no GPS, no internet), and is open source. Most compass apps out there are bloated or ad-heavy. I wanted something clean, fast, and featurish. So I made this! It’s only ~1.7 in size and uses a low-pass filter to smooth sensor readings. I am about to graduate from university this year, and I had an idea to create a mobile app similar to TikTok but for OnlyFans. Interestingly, the inspiration to replicate TikTok came from an episode of the Acquired Podcast discussing Meituan. It seemed somewhat ironic to copy a Chinese app. I ran out of money to pay rent though, so I’m looking for jobs here in Sydney instead now. I want to keep working on this project in my spare time and would appreciate any feedback and particularly guidance for how to run an open-source project!
