Introducing Nia Vault, a CLI that lets you query your local markdown/text files using natural language. What it does: Semantic search over local folders and notes Works across multiple synced directories RAG-style answers with citations from your own files How it works: Calls `POST /search/query` with `local_folders` Uses `search_mode: sources` to return answers + file references Example: vault ask "What are my notes about project planning?" Hi HN, I'm Adriano, one of the makers of Vaultrice. I'm excited (and a little nervous!) to share what we've been building. For years, we found ourselves in a frustrating loop: whenever we needed a simple real-time feature—like a "who's online" list, a collaborative app, or just sharing state between a marketing site and our main app — we'd end up spending days setting up the same stack or discarded to do it. Setting it up, it always involved wiring together a database, a WebSocket server, an API, and managing the connection state. It felt like massive overkill for what we were trying to…

Hi all, author here. SX started as a CLI to let developers share skills across AI clients without having to rely on git for storage. This allowed sharing at the Repo/Team/Org and Personal level. However, the more we spoke to users the more we realized that non-technical users were actually using skills more and more but they had no way to share. And there was no way you were going to get your legal team to install and learn git. SX 2.0 is targeting non-technical teams by adding a native Mac, Windows and Linux app. Our vault format was reworked so it can be used directly as a claude…

Hi! I got tired of setting up tools I can't explain to a team in a few words like sops or git-crypt, just to store few files with environment variables or secrets, so I built lockenv as a simple alternative. It's basically a password-protected vault file you commit to git. No gpg keys, no cloud, just lockenv init, set a password, and lock/unlock the secrets. This tool integrates with OS keyring, so you're not typing passwords constantly. Should work on Mac/Linux/Windows, but I tested it only on linux so far. I am not trying to replace any mature / robust solution, just…

I have been working on Sesame, an open-source password manager that keeps your vault local by default. You don't need an account to create or use a vault, and the hosted service never receives the vault itself. It's still early software and the independent security review isn't finished yet, so I am mainly interested in feedback, testing, and people looking through the code. (Linux support is yet to be released on v0.1.2, but currently is in the works.)

just wanted to share ward, a tool i hacked together to encrypt and manage sensitive files in a vault folder. it's written in bash and meant to be cloned and then stored using git or version control. you don't have to store it that way, it's just why i created it. what ward does: encrypts the files in ./vault/ into a single .gpg file, checks to see if your files have been tampered with, generates totp codes if you need them to recover critical accounts. how to use it: clone the repo, toss your files into the vault directory, and run yarn encrypt. now commit your new [private]…

I wanted a file management tool that actually understands what my files are about. Previous projects like LlamaFS (https://github.com/iyaja/llama-fs) aren't 100% local and require an AI API. So, I created a Python script that leverages AI to organize local files, running entirely on your device for complete privacy. It uses Google Gemma2 2B and llava-v1.6-vicuna-7b models for processing. Note: You won't need any API key and internet connection to run this project, it runs models entirely on your device. What it does: - Scans a specified input directory for files -…
