Render▲318Hey HN, I'm Anurag, founder and CEO of Render, a cloud for application developers. We've just launched Render Workflows, a way to define durable tasks by decorating plain TypeScript or Python functions and running them on Render without operating queues, worker pools, retry logic, and state management. Code example below [1]. The use cases we have in mind include agent loops, ETL/data pipelines, billing flows, and other long-running jobs. The model is simple: mark an existing function as a Task, deploy the repo as a Workflow, then trigger runs from your application code or via our API.…

Originally built as my master's thesis in 2008, Visual Lambda is a graphical environment where lambda terms are manipulated as draggable 2D structures ("Bubble Notation"), and beta-reduction is smoothly animated. I recently revived and cleaned up the project and published it as an interactive web version: https://bntre.github.io/visual-lambda/ GitHub repo: https://github.com/bntre/visual-lambda It also includes a small "Lambda Puzzles" challenge, where you try to extract a hidden free variable (a golden coin) by constructing the right term:…

Hi HN! During the last few years, I worked on a few applications built with Go, running on AWS Lambda. As I got to know the platform better, I started to find Go & Lambda to be a really productive combination. The applications were fast, and they ended up being much cheaper to run than what my team & I had built before. It’s probably not the best platform for _every_ application, but I was surprised at how much of our workload worked well on it. As we brought new engineers on to our team and helped them get up to speed with the stack, I found that we were covering a lot of the same topics…

Hey HN! I just released Puck 0.18 with a new drag-and-drop engine for CSS grid and flexbox support. You can now use Puck to create a page builder that behaves like a design tool, but embedded within your own app and using your own React components. To use it, just add `display: flex` (or grid, etc) to your DropZone and Puck will gracefully handle drag-and-drop across all dimensions. Shout out to the dnd-kit maintainer Claudéric for the collaboration and support (if you’re reading this, I just sponsored you on GitHub!) and as always, a huge thanks to my wonderful community for all the testing…
