Products that do what Visualize SQL Queries does
My co-worker and I were debugging a SQL issue; having not seen SQL in two years, I embarrassed myself by confusing union vs. join. After this episode, I tried refreshing my SQL memory, but there are few websites that animate SQL for you. Most of them just have a series of images to help you visualize. There are a few tools that are quite good and robust (especially for large/complex use cases) but require installation and are too complex for my simple purpose. So, just created a small tool to help visualise SQL. Most of the animations are just my understanding of how SQL works. Would…

Hi HN! I’m Justin, founder and CEO of Arctype, and we’re very excited to share Arctype with the community. Arctype is a cross-platform GUI (soon to be open-sourced) to manage and query your databases, with built-in collaboration and visualization. It currently supports Postgres, MySQL, and SQLite, as well as newer-generation databases like ClickHouse, PlanetScale, and Yugabyte (and more coming very soon!). Think of Arctype as “phpMyAdmin meets Postman”. Most of our team grew up learning how to program using the LAMP stack and we missed the experience of interacting with our databases using…

Hey everyone! I built a tool to help you visually build SQL queries - if you write a lot of SQL at work (or help people write it), check it out! You can try it out without needing to sign up, or integrate with any databases. Would love all your thoughts! Link: https://craftsql.com/

I played around with GPT-3 to build this demo. Select a public BigQuery dataset and describe your query in natural English, then edit the generated SQL as needed and execute it. https://app.tabbydata.com/sql-assistant-demo

Explain Code App works with SQL, a popular language for querying databases. You can tell Explain Code App what you want in plain language, and the app will generate the matching SQL code for you. https://www.explaincode.app

I've built a plugin for Excel that lets you use SQL inside Excel. Here are two demo/tutorial videos I've made: Damo 1 -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld-mbyAGsow Damo 2 -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vjlEd2-bJQ The website is here: http://thingiequery.com/ I've already posted about it a week ago, but kinda clumsily so this is a repost (it says in the guide that an occasional repost is fine, so here's one). This is the original post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9359128 And here is a Reddit thread on the plugin:…

Hey HN, I'm Steve, co-founder of Factor.fyi, a new data platform for querying and visualizing financial datasets using SQL. During the pandemic, I took much more of an active role in managing my portfolio. I wanted to be able to make informed decisions about the investments I was making, and explore financial data in new ways. Market and Econ data are some of the most talked-about and widely-available datasets out there, but I was frustrated by the lack of options to answer questions I had, like, "What would have happened if I had started dollar-cost averaging VTI back in 2013?"[1] Or, "How…

Hey everyone! Like many data analysts and engineers, I love SQL and the dbt ecosystem. So it bothers me that we have to use separate tools for product analytics. We do our transformations, BI work, and ad-hoc queries in SQL, but when it's time to look at funnels and flows, we have to use (and procure) a separate platform like Mixpanel or Amplitude. This dbt package is a (very rough) start at fixing that. With it, you can create event streams and run funnel analyses via dbt[0]. More features like flows and retention are coming soon! But I'm mostly curious how you all are doing product…

Hey Hacker News, Today we're launching Equals. Equals is a spreadsheet with native connections to your SQL databases and data warehouses. You can write SQL right in your spreadsheet. Equals was born out of a shared frustration of me and my co-founder. Despite the avalanche of new data tools over the last decade – nothing actually seemed better than a spreadsheet. Nothing was as flexible, malleable, and as easy to just dive in and play around with some data. In fact, you nearly always ended back in a spreadsheet regardless of what fancy set up you had: when something broke, when a chart in a…

Hey Everyone, I built https://querysimple.com, its a tool that allows you to transform data directly in the PostgreSQL with just SQL skills. - Creation of tables - Data syncs - Error and status reporting - Scheduling queries All of this is taken care by the application. You just write your select SQL queries. I would love some feedback from the community on the tool. You can watch a video demo, there is no need to signup. Of course, if you want to signup and give it a try that would be great!
