A few years ago, right after high school, I decided to try to make a simultaneous translation app for Android as a side project, it took longer than expected (about 2 years) and I had to make a lot of compromises (I had to use Google's API and therefore make users use a developer key because at the time there were no free solutions for speech recognition and translation that had good quality). At the end of university, I decided to pick it up again and finally, using OpenAi's Whisper for speech recognition and Meta's NLLB for translation (with both running locally on the phone), I managed to…

I built a RAG application that retrieves relevant Bhagavad Gita verses for ethical dilemmas and generates structured guidance. The problem: The Gita has 701 verses. Finding applicable wisdom for a specific situation requires either deep familiarity or hours of reading. How it works: 1. User describes their ethical dilemma 2. Query is embedded using sentence-transformers 3. ChromaDB retrieves top-k semantically similar verses 4. LLM generates structured output: 3 options with tradeoffs, implementation steps, verse citations Tech stack: - Backend: FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis - Vector DB:…

Built an auditable AI (Bible) translation pipeline: Hebrew/Greek source packets -> verse JSON with notes rolling up to chapters, books, and testaments. Final texts compiled with metrics (TTR, n-grams). This is the first full-text example as far as I know (Gen Z bible doesn't count). There are hallucinations and issues, but the overall quality surprised me. LLMs have a lot of promise translating and rendering 'accessible' more ancient texts. The technology has a lot of benefit for the faithful, that I think is only beginning to be explored.

A 15-year-old dream has come true today. I started a PhD with the dream of creating a system that chants any Sanskrit shloka perfectly. And here I am opening sourcing Vaghenu, a meter aware sloka-to-chant, TTS for Sanskrit . This is the world's first vrutta-aware, open-source TTS for Sanskrit Chanting. I am making the model weights, training scripts, and even data (that I meticulously collected) public - https://prathosh.in/vagdhenu/ No large AI lab. No big engineering team. No venture-scale budget. Just a professor's conviction that one of humanity's oldest knowledge…

Yochai is a Socratic AI "chevruta" or learning guide, powered by a foundational library of 1,000+ primary sources from the Jewish canon, (and a knowledge graph of 2.5M entities, and 16M entity relationships, 375,000 searchable passages, and 17,000 canonical concepts that we developed around our own ontology). Yochai, uniquely, takes you directly to the sources and pushes you to discover and articulate your own insights about them. we open sourced our knowledge graph so others can build on our foundation https://github.com/Lightning-Learning-Studios/yochai-kg
