Howdy folk, I've been building this project as both a side project and my job for a little while now. The rationale behind it is while wireguard is a fantastic protocol cryptographically it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to enrollment and end user device security. Obviously instead of using an off the shelf solution like tailscale, I decided to reinvent the wheel which has honestly been quite fun with learning about eBPF, and recently clustering and HA with etcd! The most recent version (in the docker container) contains about 6 months of very new work bringing it all from sqlite3…

I've frequently found myself using [nvitop](https://github.com/XuehaiPan/nvitop) to diagnose GPU/CPU contention issues. The two best things about it are: - It's easy to install if I can access pip in the container - It makes a compelling screenshot (which helps me communicate with coworkers.) With those two lessons in mind: Here is Sping! Purpose: Help observe and diagnose latency issues at layer 4+ (TCP/HTTP/HTTPS) Two good things about it: - It's easy to install if you have pip. https://github.com/ncruces/go-sqlite3 was doing poorly on this benchmark that was posted yesterday to HackerNews [1]. With the help of some pprof, I was able to trace it to a serious performance regression introduced two weeks ago, and come up with the fix (happy to field questions, if you're interested in the nitty gritty). It's not the fastest driver around, but it's no longer the slowest: comfortably middle of the pack. It's based on a WASM build of SQLite, and thanks to https://wazero.io doesn't need CGO. [1]:…

Hi HN, I’ve been working on Shibuya, a next-generation Web Application Firewall (WAF) built from the ground up in Rust. I wanted to build a WAF that didn't just rely on legacy regex signatures but could understand intent and perform at line-rate using modern kernel features. What makes Shibuya different: Multi-Layer Pipeline: It integrates a high-performance proxy (built on Pingora) with rate limiting, bot detection, and threat intelligence. eBPF Kernel Filtering: For volumetric attacks, Shibuya can drop malicious packets at the kernel level using XDP before they consume userspace resources.…

Hey HN, this is Will and David from Fortress (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41426998). We use a lot of async Rust internally, and created this library out of a need for an async-aware concurrent hashmap since there weren’t many available in the Rust ecosystem. Whirlwind is a sharded HashMap with a fully asynchronous API. Just as dashmap is a replacement for std::sync::RwLock, whirlwind aims to be a replacement for tokio::sync::RwLock. It has a similar design and performance characteristics to dashmap, but seems to perform better in read-heavy workloads with tokio's…

This is based on an approach I made for a very high performance message and video multiplexing server. The project died, but I'm glad I get to share the a basic version with some http test code now. I admit this is the second time I've tried to show this off here today; I posted earlier but it got lost when no-one was watching :(

After ~1.5+ yrs of posting here (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18755996) about webgo, this is an update, the release of v4.0.7. I know a lot of people consider "web frameworks, router etc." a joke/amateur/reinventing the wheel. But I've been able to learn a lot from it and am happy maintaining this package. Hope you like it! Webgo maintains its promise of standard library compliance, and getting out of the execution path asap. And this version comes with quite a lot of performance improvement in terms of latency, memory usage and better code altogether.…
